    Default gillespie and schifrin 'unicorn'

just picked up a sealed one of these in a big bunch of twelves - it's on Pablo, from the 'Free Ride' lp. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect? If it's not going to be to my taste, I might as well let it head to the biggest record shop in the world and let its next owner experience the joy of opening it and breathing in that 30 year-old air...

    Hello John,

I have the track on 7". In my opinion it is bad jazzfunk. I don't like it.

Production on the LP is quite smooth - the best track on the LP is the '....midnight' cut, everything else is fairly unremarkable.

I'ld move it on if I was you, John.

It's the opening track on 'Free Ride' and one of the weakest on the LP...pretty repetitive groove punctuated with a horn riff and some synth noodling.

LHC is right ...it doesn't set the world on fire.....but I like the LP after that; particularly Incantation and Wrong Number.

John, it's shit. Leave it sealed and perform warp experiments instead.

Philistines. It's a London soulboy classic! Massive at Crackers, no less. Big Norman spin. Love it. The 12's worth a lot more than the LP though.

Yeah but history has shown that London soulboys were dancing to the most terrible nonsense. We must learn from history's mistakes otherwise John is destined to open that seal and repeat them!

I think you're confusiing London soulboys with Essex soulboys, Nick.

Yeah I think it's a great track. Kind of spacey, atmospheric, funky jazz. Jazz funk is such a dirty term round here

Edit: that was so not the tune I was thinking of.... Just listened to it again. Bouncy bouncy - still like it though

    It's quote a rare 12" that one.

Well worth putting on ebay in a couple of months when things pick up.
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.

absolutely, quite a few good ones in the batch - Hudson People, Luther 'Good for the Soul', a bunch on Elite including a 10" acetate of 'Dancing in Outer Space'!
