does anyone have any info on this colgems release from about '68? I don't know whether to buy it or not.... it's an e-dig and I can't listen to it....can anyone recommend it (or otherwise...)?

We know when a mate buys it for you too.
ah ha
yes sermad sir...pick up anything nice there?

it was reissued (at least partially) on a david whitaker comp a few years back. not sure whether it's good but it's certainly a tough one to turn up, and apparently the movie was pretty good in true spy style.
most of the mid/late 60s Colgems are musically pretty damn good and very collectable so even if it's no good you can definitely get your money back unless it cost you an arm and a leg.
oh, and you know who sang the theme song presumably![]()

not sure the roy head sounds like james brown but it's a nice lp - great version of 'let a woman be a woman, let a man be a man' on there...Originally Posted by [b

I've got Hammerhead (I THINK), but haven't listened
to it for years now and would have to go find it (NIGHTMARE)
I THINK it's got some good things on there (no promises tho)
I recall Jake Benhan used to have it on his lists in the 90's.
I think he used to highlight a vocal (dodgy) bossa on there.
Not much help I know...
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.
Do you mean this one? If so, I just saw one last week in a shop for only $10. Want me to pick it up if it's still there?Originally Posted by [b
ROY HEAD
Same People (Dunhill 70)
I picked up a copy of Same People at the Sound Library. I come home and go to the KUSF record swap and this guy found 100 sealed copies in a warehouse! Anyway, Roy Head brought together all the right elements on Same People. Horns, a driving beat, his rough delivery, and some funk. The title track is a fine example of his blue-eyed soul. Did I mention the breaks? Well there are 2 incredible ones on Shes About A Mover that I know someone has used before. Nice and long open drums, followed by grunts and exhortations by Head, followed by horns, only to repeat itself shortly thereafter. One of the best drum breaks that Ive heard in a while. Roy also does a good version of the ever-funky Dyke & The Blazers tune Let A Woman Be A Woman. Soul Train is also good.
I guess I'll have to try and find my copy for a re-listen.
I remember this being fairly sub-standard blue eyed soul, fairly similar to Dick Jensens 'White Hot Soul' album.
Heres what I got.
1) BLACK PEARL-Atlantic $24
2) FANNY-Reprise $5
3) ROY HEAD-Same People-Dunhill-SS $10
4) HOG HEAVEN-Roulette-SS; should have insert $20
5) MIND GARAGE-Again-orange RCA-SS; h $20
6) RATIONALS-Crewe-SS $30
Pretty good I think.

With the Black Pearl and Mind Garage alone, you have struck nice.

That mer-da is very average mate. I got it a while back and was most disappointed.

For what it's worth, John - I agree with Sermad.
An average outing for them, and I'ld suggest that $40 is the absolute topper most to pay for the album. Depends how long you've been after it.
I have one and would probably trade it if you'ld rather - a solid 45 or something.
