    Exclamation portable decks?

What's the best portable deck to get for a decent price, i thought of gettin a vestax handitrax. Anyone know what the best value for money portable is and how long do the batteries last . As i don't want them to run out in a shop while lookin!!

Whoever designed the Handytrax with the on/off switch protruding from the outside needs a swift kick to the head. : oxymoronicmadsmilie :

The Numark is better shaped but only just - there'll be precious little room in the average over the shoulder record bag you might take shopping. I thought the size would convince me so I went to West End DJ and compared them. Both are the same weight and similarly bulky and price is the same. I;d be surprised if battery life was radically different. But the sound on the Vestax seemed to be better so that was a good enough tie breaker for me.

Tis my weapon on choice too - feels sturdier than the Vestax to me as well, particularly when it's loaded with batteries. Good life on the Duracells.......£70 well spent.

Unfortunately I did not compared the sound quality.
I paid 20 bucks less than for the vestax (99$ instead of 119$), that was the main reason to buy the numark... (and 'cause of the shape as already mentionned...)

Yeah. I'm really careful about it too. You have to be hyper careful getting it in and out of your bag but it still seems to get knocked and switched on now and again. A major design flaw. Thank god for cheap boot sale batteries.

The difference is not so vast that I'd say the Numark is a piece of junk. Anyway depends on what you need it for.

As I am using it for playing stuff while living away from home for a few months sound is more important to me than it may be for others.

There's alot to recommend the GP3.... but the single channel output to phones ? Sheesh. Having used one while digging - with half a mind to buying one - that alone put me off going any further.

Best budget solution still has got to be a modified Fisher Price ?

OK. I would also looking for something better than a numark if i had to listen to music on it for more than a few seconds, thats true... I just use it while digging at dusty fleas and in warehouses where no decks are available, just to get an idea what an LP could sound like... on that reason, in my opinion, the numark is ok...

And using quality headphones too, the Numark for me, is the best portable I've used out in the field.....save possibly the 'burger.

surely the burger is the overall daddy? it certainly kills the vestax dead, no comparison between them at all.

am I right in thinking the vestax does 78rpm?
"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)

I had a Handytrax but had to ditch it, was like carting a bleedin' suitcase around. The burger is king - still the smallest and lightest of them all.

By the way, I've got a couple if anyones interested!

The burger just isnt realiable when placing it on wobbly record boxes at fairs! Ive had my gp3 knocked off stalls quite a few times at utrecht and it amazingly is still working hard.

GP3 all the way for me. You can make it stereo in headpones with a teeeny bit of soldering. I even added a headphone amp INSIDE it. Check the kits from maplin. Its mad loud now.

I'll follow Belson and hype about he Numark

What you guys are meaning with poor sound quality with Numark? Sound through built-in speaker or headphones?

You can't be serious and expect it give some quality through built-in speaker and who wants to use it like that anyway. On my mind they could have left that speaker out of the whole thing. There just isn't any use for it.

I use noise cancelling Bose headphones and quality couldn't be better...

Wot I mean is the speaker sound on the Vestax is better than on the Numark - obviously I amn't expecting anything awe inspiring. but as myy unique circumstyances mean i do use the speaker then I obviously chose the one with the better speaker. But I'm the first to say there isn't a whole lot in it between them.

    No love for the Philips?

It's my portable of choice. Mind you, I dont have a FP or a soundburger

My Vestax which is now retired due to the much mentioned on/off switch problem.
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.

Anyone ever seen a 70s portable called a Mettoy Music Maker?

I’ve a got an in store demonstration 45 for it with Ed Stewpot giving it the hard sell (“so come on dads, get out your cheque books now!”) and introducing some snippets of very groovy music. So, in my desultory way I kinda wouldn’t mind tracking down the record player itself to go with....

I think Manzo might have one.

I turned a minty boxed one down at the boot one day, because the bloke refused to haggle from his opening price of a tenner. The stupid thing, is that had he said 15, I'd have offered a tenner, and walked away with what felt like a bargain.

Anyway, I need less portables not more !
