August’s Brillo was a major blowout special, with record numbers of Brilloites, despite notable absences by regulars Greg & Sermad, and several civilians that came down especially for the night, including our regular stalker. Despite the wifebeater (Stella) being warm cos the barrels were too big to cool properly, a jolly good time was had by all – nice to see one of our American friends and a special contingent from Reading. Fair bit if trading going on, in fact, maybe Brillo trades should be declared too – anyone care to volunteer their spoils?

Without further ado, here’s what got played – I can’t read everyone’s drunken scrawls too well sometimes, so apologies for spelling errors. If you post the correct title, I’ll edit them in.

oh, and in a trans-atlantic gesture of good will, copies of the Roger Coulam LP and Sort of Soul should be working their way back to Marco and co via Tim

while we're on the subject of playlists, heres a partial one from HF+S, as promised. Not in the right order, though.

    alton Ellis: sunday coming
Ken Boothe: Is it because I'm black
Frank Williams: You got to be a man

    Magnificent Zeinians: Ije Udo
    ROB: More
    Night train: making tracks
amrals trinidad cavaliers: 90% of me is you
Bob Marley and the wailers: Ska Jerk

Good luck on finding a Blattner - I believe a 45 only release, with the last one I saw on a list going for about £175.

The one on the bay not that long ago went for tippedy top dollar too.

The unfortunate side effect of certain funk mixes... oh well. Maybe someone can boot it, cos it's such a hot tune.

Not that it matters much, just thought I'd make a slight correction to this 'un - it's actually called 'Get Moving (with Younger's Tartan)', credited to Father William, on a Lyntone flexidisc. Possibly the greatest advertising flexi ever (though I still don't have 'Rhythm and Crunch'......)

Well, not that I want to suggest that you're wrong, but erm... you're wrong

This is, to give it it's full disc credits...

'Scottish Magic' by Youngers Tartan 'The Hickory'

..indeed produced by the mighty Lyntone (LYN1982).

    So, this other one then....worth a punt y'say ?

Well, I thought it was going to be *my* but that's blown because of 1) Publishing it on my playlist & 2) Someone's beat me to it.

I must try harder, I must dig deeper.....

Anyway, it is cracking track, and there is another one on the LP that I like equally as much. He's no one tracker that Rupert y'know.

Eh what??? There's another Younger's Tartan flexi??
Flippin' eck, if it's as good as 'Get Moving', I need it!!
Right, that's another one to look for then.
If you haven't got 'Get Moving', look out for it - it is (as Frank Carson would say) a cracker.

Any composer credits on this other one?

I've not got 'Get Moving' yet... but I've got a copy coming. And as for writing credits, what I've posted it all that is on the 'label' such as it is on a flexi.

Do either of you have a flexi from Scottish & Newcastle called "Meet up Here"?
The reason I ask is because I picked up another lp by the Dance Orchestra of the Black Watch (they both contain nuggets of purest funk - honest ) and they do this track on it.
Both myself and Mr Colin Hero think it is also a flexi but perhaps a different version - the version on the LP is great - very groovy with a break that occurs twice!

Yes, got the message - my address is on its way!

Not heard of 'Meet Up Here' - I think Scottish and Newcastle's flexidisc output might need to be investigated! I wonder if they've got any info anywhere - I think the company may have been taken over a few times since the seventies, so probably not, but perhaps it's worth a try?

You're miffed because I forgot to include you from a list of people who couldn't make it? Can't you get your class to make you a welcome home card instead? Just kidding, but don't take it out on your class now, like algebra round the playing field 15 times...

Er, who are you? ÂAnyway, haven't you got anything better to do on an eight week diving holiday in exotic climes.

One more flexi to look out for - 'Potato Chip' by the Shadows Of Knight. 33rpm square, cardboard picture 'disc'. What's more, the tune's pretty good too (slowly building that crisp promo segment)...

They're singing about 'potato chips' so they *have* to be Shermans! They are the one and only Shadows Of Knight (unless there is another that is...). Before the track there's a snippet of 'Gloria' and then they introduce the band in an 'amusing' manner.

Yup it's the US Shadows of Knight - they of "Gloria" and "Shake" fame - it's on the Dunwhich records story comp. Now then anyone got a copy of the Electric Prunes Vox Wah Wah ad flexi?

Anyway, it is cracking track, and there is another one on the LP that I like equally as much. He's no one tracker that Rupert y'know.
So long as he stays off the mike... that falsetto ain't really Curtis Mayfield quality...

"I'm looking... I'm LOOK-EEENG!" ... yeah stow it Rupert an' get back on the beats.

Hey Matt glad to see you get some play out of that Wayne Cochran LP.The White James Brown defintly brings it. If you ever see his album on Chess be sure to snap it up, but stay far far away from the one he did on Bethlehem
