Nice update fellas - real good stuff on Rediffusion and I had chuckle at Peter Sundae' chart 'cos I made exactly the same mistake with that "Double Dutch" LP - it really is minging.

My question is - wassup with the "next" pages on the Contour and BBC pages? I just see some web hosting error thing.

hopefully Sie will fix all those page links today...he's off sick, bless him!

bang to rights with that Double Dutch LP here too...read the sleevenotes though...they are priceless!!! Steenhuis was a Jam billionaire! that's the closest smilie to a jammy dodger there was...

i am seriously chuffed to finally get some low-down on rediffusion. their background music has a lot to answer for - i spent years as a kid going round supermarkets, completely transfixed by the piped music and it's stayed with me. maybe that's why i feel weak and my eyes roll about like billy-o whenever i hear those soft beats and vibes near the tinned asparagus.

wow, never knew that... he was in a POW camp or something during the war as well wasn't he? quite an eventful life by the sounds of it. my 'guitars for girl friday' is signed, which must raise it's value to, ooh, at least 20p. i do stand by Steenhuis's 'Tiger Shark' track though - not funky, but fun

Agree with bongolia on 'Tiger Shark' - the Paradise Island LP is well worth your 50 new pence for that and the sleeve...

And Ike Isaacs' 'Lutes'n'Flutes' is a nice Rediffusion one, full of jazzy/harspichordy takes on things like Bach Cantatas, 'It's Not Unusual' & the like. Very odd record, and very much the sort of thing you'd get piped into an early 70s supermarket, but very nice listening all the same from the 'Hymns A Swinging' sessionman...I recommend it!

Some very snotty sleevenotes about how Ike 'has provided the guitar solos for overpaid talentless pop acts', though...

Didn't the New Elizabethans do one of the early Amphonic LPs?

'The Magic Of Two Pianos' is actually by Paul Scott, not Ronnie Aldrich (though it could be Ron under a pseudonym - he rips off all the arrangements, anyway.)

Oh yes, the idea that Des Champ may be a pseudonym for Alan Hawkshaw is interesting.

Personally I don't think he is, but I do have a few bits which DC was involved with, and Hawkshaw does seem to turn up on a few of them.

My own view is Des is probably a real bloke, and the 'Champ' thing is just a happy coincidence, but it's an interesting thought nonetheless.....

Fookin' sweet as usual gents, and what a bloody wealth of records to look out for. It's possible to turn up Some good stuff on Reddifusion, and quite often in the most unusual places, for instance 'The sweet and swining sound of the Charles Young Choral' lp, it don't sound particularly funky, but theres a couple of magic tracks in versions of 'goin' out of my head' and 'can't take my eyes off you', v heavy on the bass/drums, well worth a few pence. I like Tony Osbourne as well, his 'American woman' is the shizznit guv' an no mistake.
Incidentally saw 'Seven ages...' on the bay last week i think,
don't know what it went for tho', at the last look it were creepin' up to the 40 quid mark, outta my price league baby!.

No way, you would weep if you got that home after shelling out £40. I would be cautious at any more than a fiver !

Really, it's not all that then mate?, i have heard that the pressing/mastering quality is shite which is why i didn't persue. Which is a shame really 'cos it looks quite cool!.

Cooo!, 36 notes seems like a lot if the quality's gonna be lo-fi, still what do i know!, if someone want's it bad enough, they'll cough up whatever. Its a matter of personal choice innit!.

Hmmmm sounds like a few of these 'mythical' lp's arent really what theyre cracked up to be, a friend made me a copy of 'moody' and i have to say that while it's good, i could'nt help feeling a little underwhelmed, and guilty for feeling that way in the first place, weird huh?. Thats why i find it hard to explain different stuff to peeps, i'd rather they just heard it fer 'emselves and made up thier own minds. To quote LTJ Bukem "it's all a matter of opinion".
