Default Gremlins Have Pictures of Us Actually Communicating

and they would like it to stop.

Please don't ever bring back VV's old gremlins, and please don't ever introduce new ones. I've been lurking on a few other music sites -Soul Strut, Waxidermy- and in my eyes their biggest problem is that gremlins have largely supplanted language. The little fuckers are shortcuts, and everybody likes a shortcut.

It's crazy-making, really. I hate those little vermin. I wish I had a microwave for every fucking one of them.

I didn't know what to think first time I saw it - then later a friend of mine got hold of a bootleg copy of the original cut which is around 20 minutes longer and has some additional scenes. We watched it with a friend of his who is a completely normal and quite homophobic guy - it was pretty strange drinking coffee together and watching it, debating which scenes were longer and which scenes we didn't recognize with words such as "I don't remember him pulling out his penis in the car before they get stuck in the mud, that has to be a new scene" all the while his friend squirmed and looked very embarassed, awkward and nervous...

There's an excellent legit dvd of this out now. Nice extras, all the footage not seen in theatres.

And that dodgy site fiveminutestolive has several other Kuchar films well worth checking out. And while you're there, buy a Doris Wishman film!

Doris Wishman - did she make Let Me Die A Woman?? That's a completely crazy movie, and pretty disgusting too when they start showing the operations.... And was it her that made that movie I saw many years ago about a secret agent woman with hidden cameras in her enormous boobs??

New definition of cool: a fat man who sits naked in his garden with his naked wife, conversing with angels.

I need some fat, a garden, a wife, and a belief in angels. I'm fucked. But I could probably get fat.

William Blake gave not a flying f**k what anyone thought of him, and got on with doing his own very brilliant thing regardless: in my book that isn't just cool, that pretty much defines the concept.

As the old observation goes, if you're worrying about whether you or what you're doing are cool or not you're not hot, not cool, just condemned to eternal mediocrity. The coolest people are always the least cool people.

And there I rest my case m'Lords.

'fraid o'sex? Maybe, but the only uncool thing about Franz Kafka are those people who read him and miss the humour.

I'm afraid I've been misread! No bone to pick with Blake --I revere the man. And Kafka, too.

And speaking of Kafka, that recent translation of AMERIKA reveals it to be a book of endless wonders. Never would have guessed it from the old Muir translation.

When, as a tragic and romantic young man, I taught English in Prague, I made the mistake of bringing up Kafka with my students. I talked for about two minutes until I realized everybody in the room was looking at me like I was crazy. They then proceeded to school me on Kafka, a comic writer par excellence. What could be funnier than reading about a man who woke up to find himself a giant insect (a beetle, according to Nabokov)? I was flabbergasted. But of course they were right...
