not seen anything as bad as that...round this way its all 'things that WOULD be worth the asking price if they hadn't been used as a frisbee by a Rottweiler'

Both self titled Small Faces albums, warped, scratched, torn and written on sleeves. £30 and £35...bargain!
"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)

Wow, thats quite bad but down here in Bristol and Bath there are some right scaries that have been gathered dust in zee charities,

Another one I remember was Lovesexy by Prince for £29.99.

I didnt give anyone grief about it in the shop.Never ever do that.

Anyone want my spare yessongs for half that....thought not.

Just went round a strech of chazzas I don't usually go to but they are near the bike repair shop. Almost none had any records at all.

Other than the oxfam book and music shop - Hatfield & The North live for €25 in Ex condition may actually be reasonable.

Last summer, the Oxfam in Hessle just outside Hull had Spandau Ballet's Greatest Hits for £15.

I found two new charity shops near work the other day and was wetting myself with anticipation only to find that they had no records . I realise i should have asked if they had any in the back and all that, but upon seeing a naked shop dummy i fled for fear of arrest

Not really shocking more a bit odd, but a charity shop near where i work is offering Lps at 59p each or 3 for a pound.. Its actually cheaper to buy 3 records than 2... not that im complaining like. on a side (and unrelated) note, when i was in there at lunch time i was flicking through the records and a book on the shelf above caught the corner of my eye. I thought it was called "the art of killing - a beginners guide" on closer inspection it actually read " the art of knitting - a beginners guide". I think i might need an eye test and possibly glasses.

Also an Oxfam book and record place, today in Worcester. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, £18. Hold me back.....!

Mentioned this before; once saw Atomic Roosters' Death Walks Behind You for £25 in a shop in Burton on Trent. About 500 yds up the road I pulled it out the pound bin in Henrys'. Next time I went to the charity shop it had gone....!?!

I've just come back from a lunchtime rummage in the Portishead charities and saw a Beatles - Please Please Me red label 7" for £150.00. Slightly steep, especially seeing as there are tons on ebay from 99p.
I think they must recognise big name stuff, tap their noses and say 'You know Gladys, I've got a feeling this could be worth something...'

Saw the first FAMILY LP today - admittedly a pretty decent LP, and in not bad nick - but still: £55 (with the legend 'Book Price £80' next to the price in felt tip pen).

I resisted picking up that elusive double.

    In good nick eh,wow!

Dont mind paying the price if its clean.I bought a 'shape of the rain' lp for 29 quid in one Oxfam, which wasnt a bad price as a dealer would charge double. You should have seen the prices at the Wembly Record Fair a few weeks back.Wish I'd checked out the mad street theatre with that massive wooden elephant instead........although.......

I seem to have a blind spot when it comes to records I want, in the wrong place.

If something is from a dealer, then I'll happily pay the price, but if its more than a couple of quid at a boot or a charity, I find myself walking away before I can even do the sums and work out if its worth it.

Yes, was checking the other day what might be worth disposing of online among a pile of ravey and britpop stuff I found last weekend. Pleasantly surprised to see 'What's The Story...' fairly consistently making £20 - £40 (upper end seems to be for still sealed copies). Mind you, guess there weren't that many pressed, relative to the popularity, most of that 90s stuff being bought on CD and all that, I suppose...

Yeah, got £35 - £40 for my first 2 Oasis on Ebay - picked up the MC's of them in a charity for 25p each to play in the car....well it saves putting the 'mid-period' Beatles stuff onto tape, dunnit ?

Unhappy Oh god!!! Not ANOTHER thread about how much chazza's are rip-offs!!!

While i agree with alot of this thread, that yes, alot of records are over-priced in some chazza's, in my experience it seems to ones that i seriously wouldnt want at all...and after all...you don't HAVE to buy them do you?

The thing is that i'm FIRMLY in the camp that beleives that these are CHARITY shops after all...and like most chazza's..if something is over priced and doesnt sell then eventually it will have to be reduced to sell, and remember alot of the people who VOLUNTEER to work in chazza's are no experts in the field of records or clothes or books etc etc...if a news-worthy report about vinyl being collectable or perhaps a cash-in-the-attic type programme start propogating the view that vinyl is worth something then yes...someone is gonna take that idea on board and start pricing up stuff because maybe they think it's old therefore worth something etc etc Infact there's a myriad reasons why some records in chazza's can be way over priced..Yep the RC Bible is misused alot in oxfam but that because alot of VOLUNTEERS are unsure how to use the book and don't realise about the grading system (i.e. it's the MINT price that's listed) but again i'll stress that they're no experts...plus it works both ways...i've picked up 100's of REALLY great albums REALLY cheap in Oxfam and shops that do use the guide since they were European or US etc and not in the book (NOVI SINGERS for £1.99...SWALLOW LP for £2.99 for example)

I still am lucky enough to get great finds from Chazza's and i'm happy to let you all gripe about the prices but in the North we seem to do ok...and lets face it, maybe that WINGS album is over priced...maybe the SMALL FACES LP's are scratched up but you know...and i know...we can get them elsewhere in better condition and much cheaper... the point though, that i think some people are missing is that unless you are REALLY unlucky then you've probably had LOADS of good finds in chazza's that were UNDER-PRICED...and how many of you out there have been ripped off by chazza's?...Seriously?
Naw didnt think many of you have actually PAID so much for a knackered LP or actually BOUGHT a WHAM LP for £20 (i couldnt beleive it either)..But how many of you gripers have jumped for joy when you got a killer album for next to nothing and not thought about the fact that the charity is actually missing out? Me...personally,if i find a REALLY good album for next to nothing, i'll make sure, depending on just how much of a bargain i've got, I leave a generous tip

I seem to remember this same thread in ever different guises going on and on over the years but to be honest NOTHING has changed and i personally think people find it easy to miss the point about chazza's..CarBoots on the other hand....

dude, your rant is correct, but its still amusing to have a light hearted gripe about chazzas, and share the odd amusing price related tale.

Also, as long as new people join any forum, there are going to be the odd topics that get recycled. Just ignore if it bothers you.

I draw the line at buying second hand food from chazzas.

It's defo the case that they ar enot as good for getting records as they once were and thus the griping.
