    I sort of lost track of the whole classical thing when Vaughan Williams died. Anything new to report?

    Only recently finished reading Richard Steinitz's book on Ligeti, which definitely made me want to hear much, much more of his music than I've so far managed. Funnily enough, sorting through things while packing, I was checking some old tapes a friend made about 10 years ago of people like Ligeti, Messaien, Xenakis and others, and thinking I really need to get some of this stuff on a proper format, at last. Unfortunately, he chose the option of making a lovely arty graphic insert rather than a tracklist...

    I read about a farmer who used to play Vaughan Williams for his cows.

    Very happy cows then, I should think - unless he played them the 6th or 7th symphonies which are a little more challenging.
