Thread: Proposal: VV Kids Comp.

Can I join in - I'd PM'd Sergio Paradise but am not on the list so mahaps I'll do it publically.

1-5 tunes - so you can do soemthing well known and fantastic and something obscure and hideous. Think kids, think Sain, think......well you do 'cos they didn't. Mmmmm.

Don't suppose there's any chance of contributing some cash towards a copy whilst not actually having any actual music to contribute only we're expecting a nipper in December and what could be better than a VV comp for it?

Well....y'know....they'd have to send proof of existence of 'alleged' childe....
Then there's lurker childe's....I mean that's another whole stainless steel worm container...

I know that Sergio will choose, out of the five tracks I send him, the one that is ACTUALLY good. I mean, that trick never catches anybody, right?

    I have a question...

What about songs / bands from the genre loosely described as 'Bubblegum'... Y'know the Archies, the Hardy boys, Josie and the Pussycats, the banana splits etc...

Anyone got the H.R. pufnstuf soundtrack? I'd love to hear it...

I have the Pufnstuf soundtrack, and in fact am using a track off it in my first ever mix. Cool record.

But I say no bubblegum, much as I love the stuff.

"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)

Yeah, but YOU'RE the one who'll cop the abuse when they go 'missing' in the post

As far as copies for those who haven't contributed, i'm not sure what the usual rule is but i'm sure we can work something out on the quiet.

What a bout things like the chipmunks doing beatles songs or punk ? Or any irritating high pitched voices for that matter, as Pinky and Perky are sorta rip offs anyway aren't they?

    I have my tracks ready:

    "Mitt Sar" Goda Goda soundtrack
"The Octopus Song" Bennys Badekar soundtrack

I take it I just send these to Mr Sergio Paradise? Is someone including "Mr Drummer Man"? If not I can send this.

    What about not those?

Or I'll start lobbing in Father Abraham in Smurfland.

    Okay...

I've got a selection for you Sir...

The tracks I want to submit are...

Yo Yo Man - The Brady Bunch ( Bubblegum it maybe, but it's just too funky not to be on this comp)
Rock Slide - Ellon Academy Band ( School band tune with what I believe to be a hoofing break in its midst )
Twistin with mother - Alan Jones and his combo, Pt1 ( Nursery Rhymes get a beat makeover )
Haunted House - Hap Palmer ( From a childrens 'movement exploration and creative movement activities ' rekkid, not scary at all mind... )
Googleye - Roger Whittaker ( It's better than you think....)

Had to think long and hard about the choices...
I would hate to think of a project like this going ahead without any of the following... copies of which I can provide if nobody else covers them...

Baa baa black sheep - Tijuana Nursery Rhymes, the one that was common as muck, haven't seen it in a while tho'
It's the wolf - Spin a magic tune ( Mike McNaught ) seen quite a few of these as well over the years...
The Jungle is jumping - The Mike Sammes singers, wombles version is good this is better...
Sing Song - Maggie Henderson & Fred Harris ( Ragtime ) Graham Walker involvement pays off.
Bobby & betty go to the moon / Happy monsters, too great not to be on this comp.

Just what is the best version of Mah-na Mah-na BTW, personal vote goes to that version on the Frank Barber percussion album on the Circle of sound polydor series... any other takers or versions?

Has anybody got 'Aqua marina' can't find my copy but if I remember correctly its Barry Grey (Sp?) him who did Stingray (which is also a great track), Thunderbirds et al. Brilliant wordless vocals... dreamy gorgeous song that works really well as a summer tune as well...

Nellie the Elephant - Toy Dolls, anyone?

and then there's all the bubblegum stuff aswell...

Now Mr. Sergio let me know about these MP3 thingies

    Yup...

Excellent tune and so is 'Far East blues'... but that just wouldn't fit on this comp would it? Too Good for kids , it's probably gonna go on my end of year VV swap comp.

Lookin at the back of the record Mark, and you mentioning that you have a few of his... Do you have the 'Mod Marches' one? What are the others to look out for?

You devil! I was going to include "Haunted House" on my in-the-works-right-now first swap cd (which I'm just going to send to any vultures who want it).

Honestly I almost always find at least one worthwhile track on Hap Palmer's lps. Lately I've been loving "The Hawk" off Modern Tunes for Rhythms and Instruments.

    Sorry Mark!

Hopefully that doesn't count me out of that first mix of yours...

    Great stuff

EDIT: Nope...it's not. I'm thinking of Wau Hatari. And Googleye is much better too......

Both my tracks are funky kids records, but they are sung in Danish and in Swedish, so it is difficult to know they are kids records. Are only English entries acceptable?

There's no language restrictions. As long as the tunes were intended for kids or sung by the little blighters they qualify.

    Can't wait to hear them.
