Hi,
Does anyone know which Jacques Lasry tune was used as the opening theme to the 70's UK Childrens program "Picture Box"? I'm trying to track it down....
Thanks,
Mark Morb

Opinions vary, but it seems to be called either 'Manege' or 'Maneche' - my guess would be the former, as it's French for roundabout.
I'd love to find some Lasry/Les Structures Sonores stuff, but it's a bit tricky to get hold of - has there ever been a decent, preferably legal, compilation anywhere?

It appears to be on "Les Structures Sonores: No 4" , cannot locate a copy in the usual places though. At least I know what to look for now (especially as I may be going over to see the Girlfriends parents in France later this year)
Thanks
A couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to turn up the first "Structures In Sound" 10inch housed in a special folder to tie in with an exhibition of their bizarre home made instruments in New York in 1965. The folder has loads of pictures of said instruments - most of which resemble art deco furniture if I remember rightly!
I once saw a whole set of listings for records by someone I usually associated with chair design (Bauhaus I think). These were recordings of his musical sculptures and I've been trying to work out who it was ever since I stopped watching the auction and promptly forgot.Originally Posted by Mang

..sounds nice. Didn't Lasry invent some sort of instrument made from glass rods? I seem to remember something about that...I'm off for a Google I thinkOriginally Posted by Mang

I think the glass rods thing is right - I've heard it said the BBC originally wanted Les Structures Sonores to play the theme tune from Doctor Who (I think producer Verity Lambert was a fan), but they wanted too much money so they got Delia at the Radiophonic Workshop in instead. Some Lasry tracks were used as incidental music in the 60s, though, and they're quite easy to spot as they all sound like sinister versions of 'Picture Box'!
So, can anyone help me source the full length mp3 of Manege please?
I've heard it on YT and it is fabulous, although the quality is of course not really worth ripping.
El Sporto especially, I would be forever grateful IF you were willing to help out - IF the rest of Lasry Baschet's stuff is like this I would love to hear it...
what's that, an MP3 request on a vinyl site?
well i never.
Well, unless someone starts cranking out fresh copies of obscure vintage LPs what exactly would you expect fellow enthusiasts to try for..?
A little bit of mp3 generousity from fellow listeners is the best many of us can hope for.

Quite an interesting little piece on Waxidermy about Jacques Lasry:

Think I'd like to look at pictures of the instruments perhaps more than listen to it though. I saw this for sale a few weeks ago and now I can't remember where...duh!

Hmmmm.... I suspect this "problem" isn't going to go away. The only way people can find this forum floating in hyper-space is by googling and linking to it. Sorry to keep harping on, but back in the olde days, the forum was a wee private party in the VIP section of a website specialising in collecting RECORDS. When you passed through the hallowed portal, it could safely be assumed that most of the chat would be VINYL related. And you'd be politely asked to leave the party if you started sullying the chat with talk of "CDs" and "MP3s" and Blue Rays...
It's not like the name VG+ really gives any indication that the forum is even vinyl related. I think the sooner there's a "real" site which the forum links through, the better. Seems to get mentioned every 6 months or so, but disappears. It's not like SoulStrut's front end is particularly fancy, but it's a welcome...
Right, that's me had my regular rant, probably in the wrong section since it merits a thread of its own (sorry Morbius) - maybe it's recent fatherhood that has made me want to right all the wrongs in the world. Or I've just become even more of a moaning old fart.
I've been trying to find out who holds the rights to the "Les Structures Sonores" stuff as I would dearly love to get my hands on the masters and release a compilation through my label...but after a year or so I'm no closer...still haven't even found a nice copy of No.4 in order to get a good needledrop recording....
I think this blog post may be of interest to readers/contributors of this thread:

Been on this for a reissue for about three years now. Rights are unbelievably foggy, strange and complex. Watch this space...
