I remember Kenny Lynch from 'Mooncat' and some cheesy Guinness records show called 'That's Amazing' or I could have dreamt up both of those, its hazy. I do know a guy who used to do session work in the 50's and 60's, a sax player, lets just say he does not speak that fondly of Mr Lynch.

Kenny Lynch was a bit of a Gareth Hunt, eh...? the two of them together on the sleeve of a britfunk classic? oh, go on then.

Given the lack of leaves on the trees, how cold must those poor women have been?

Bobbie Jean and The Scots Boys - A Taste of Honey A private press from 1971 with organ and drums. Apparantly she married one of the 'Scots Boys' and they now run a B+B in Northern Scotland. Maybe some Scottish VG plussers know more. Interesting cover of 'Rupert the Bear' until she starts rolling her r's. Not got to side 2 yet. They did this track which sadly isn't on the album:

Isabel Parra - El Encuentro Chilean songstress doing folky, trad stuff from Latin America.

White Noise - A White Noise 2 Not as seminal as the first and more a solo project but solid synth album, pretty wrecked mind you. Actually despite the crackle I'd forgotten how good this was.

Roy Ayres - No Stranger to Love 1979 Roy Ayres effort in full on stilton phase.

VA - The Thrillers Liberated from the box set.

Tony Sherwood his Piano and Rhythm - Cocktail Time Why not.

The Fools - Sold Out New Wave, power pop with a bit of yodelling.

Be Bop Deluxe - Drastic Plastic Ex Library copy of arty rock which I quite like.

Buddy Emmons - Sings Bob Willis Steel Guitar action.

Osmonds - The Plan Picked this up because unlike most I find the record seems to be in excellent condition.

I pulled a second Bobbi Jean and the Scots Boys LP a few months back which had a nice version of 'Killing Me Softly' on it but not much else. I agree that Oba Oba track is great, they must have released something else inbetween as my other LP is from 1983

Just checked my other LP - at that point they were called the Bobbi Jean Trio but had the exact same line up. Going to need to try and do some digging now!

Slim pickings from a largely barren month so far, and to be honest my heart is not in it at the moment.



Deyampert - It's You. I pass on so many 90s onwards dance 12 inchers because I have no idea what they are and the likelihood of ensuing speed garage/trance/techno is not enticing. But the label on this one described it as "deep soulful garage". Now I do like that. This was a Ronseal moment - an accurate description and very good.

Zoltan - The Story So Far. This one was described as "deep jazzy/garage house". More like B&Q own brand than Ronseal for the description. Not sure where the jazzy fits in, or does jazzy have a totally different meaning in the context of noughties garage/house? (Jazz the cat was momentarily taken in by the label too it seems).



Dave Dee, Dozy etc - Please. Always had a soft spot for The Legend Of Xanadu but never had a copy before. Glad I picked this one up beceause the B side Please is a belter.

Calypso Time with Frank Holder. Nixa EP in tip top condition. Of Watermelon the 50s sleeve notes are typically coy when describing the tracks Tomato and Watermelon.

A few from my outing on Saturday when I visited a street market and two car boots. All in all not a lot of records present. With the street market stretching about 500 m along a street there is a bit of a luck factor if you are at the right end of the street when a crate appears. Usually you have to walk the length of the market twice while the sellers are unloading. On my second round I found a promising pile of 7s, and could pick out a few interesting ones. When I paid another digger came by and said I should check out a stall a bit further. 4 boxes of 7s at 40p and I saw someone pay for a Ready Steady Who EP. Apparently that one had been missed in a frenzy while I came up the other end and checked out the first pile, which probably was there because of every other digger being around the other stall. That's usually when you have a chance at that market, when record crates come out at the same time at different ends.
All in all, I spent £7 on 3 LP and 10 7"

OG in VG-, but a split and scribbled on sleeve. Still solid folk blues.

Soft psych that I'm sure I've seen in a lot of shops, at a price too high for a punt, but too low to induce faith that it's actually good.
And it is there somewhere inbetween, sounds good but not something you remember.
Redeye
Another of the type of records that crowd psych boxes in shops, somewhere around £5-8.
More towards country rock, this.


Hasse Permbo - Balladen om Karl Hubert / Satir i moll
Strange one from 1973 by a local photographer, clumsy and bizarre lyrics. A-side bounces along in country rock style, but B-side has a progg sound, almost with Syd Barrett moments.
Docent Död - Magi magi magi/ Fröken ur
Swedish powerpop from 1982. B-side is the best one. Band still going after a number of reconfigurations.
[B]Reportage - Tre unga Orsa-spelmän[ (1971)/B]
Title is "Three young Orsa fiddlers". Last month I found "Reportage - spela själv" a field recording LP, this is in the same series, three young (16-20) fiddlers from Orsa playing 8 traditional songs from the region. Orsa in Dalarna has a long tradition of fiddlers, and Benny from ABBA started up the group Orsa Spelmän (Orsa Fiddlers) in 1987, actually including the two Moraeus brothers on this record as well as their little brother Kalle, who is the most known of the three.

Just some indulgence in really good glam. Sweet as usual backing a Chinnichap stomper with a really good self written song.
Crazy Elephant - Sunshine, red wine (1969)
Didn't know this, but a good stomp to the A-side, and an interesting Swedish picture sleeve

I'm a fan of the Redeye lp. Picked mine up cheap in Amsterdam. Don't recall ever seeing it over here.
