I never knew that Mang. I'll look out for it.
Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all

Had to check my copy, and that's the one I have, thought this was how it should be...

Was my birthday last week so got a few surprise records:

        [IMG][/IMG]

Well sort of... I liked the first 'McKay' reissue album 'Into You' but I like this collection of outtakes etc hiss and all even more so. The 'Sun Ra' was a nice surprise along with the 'Coltrane' and I hinted at the 'Bruce Ditmas' comp. Minted up a copy of the the first 'Eternal Wind' album well vinyl wise anyway cover is about EX. The 'Don Shirley' was a chazza find, an interesting bloke bit of a prodigy this is him with a group as the only other thing I'd heard by him was 'Piano Perspectives' which you've probably guessed was all piano solos. Its quite nice so will get further listens. He ended up with multiple university degrees, wrote operas and all sorts throughout his life, not bad for a guy who was a bit of rogue as a kid.

        Some Chazza finds last week:

        [IMG][/IMG]

The last one a private press scouse country record has the 'Bonus Track Heroin Road' which drew me in, its dawg-gawn awful and personally I think they just missed putting the title of it on the inner. A mint 'Reggae Party' and another 'Best of British Folk' with a similar track listing to another one I bought recently with the same name but this one is on Castle and was mint so worth a quid punt which paid off as they are different. Oh and some cheap albeit a bit scratched Blues on cheapo label 'Society'. Sounds like some dodgy bootlegged gig but is a fine listen.

        And a couple more:

        [IMG][/IMG]

Machines is a comp of various new wave on Virgin which was mint also and the other one is probably flamenco which will suit me but not listened yet, probably a dodgy tourist record.

I'm afraid zarzuela is Spanish light opera.
One of those terms you quickly learn to avoid, like tunas (strolling university bands) and coplas (dodgy flamenco)

I like the idea of a strolling band though. Did they every strut in the 70s?

Oh balls! Oh well so it goes... I'll try and file it away in my head but I'll no doubt buy something similar at some point!

Not as far as I'm aware.
They're male student societies with elaborate hazing rituals who sing merry folk tunes. My partner came across them at Salamanca and says they're gilipollas (dicks)

I was looking at footage of Peruvian strolling bands a few weeks ago.

I wonder who's regretting his choice of instrument.

Some 45's from this morning. The first one narrated by 'Tim Rice' is from the eighties and all about establishing a discography of all music a bit like discogs I suppose almost like the internet came along and stole your idea Tim without the need for any grants and all that kind of thing. I'll update as I give them a spin, the most interesting look like the African ones and playing the 'Raphael' now and its boring Chanson/Schlager whatever as expected. The Joy Strings were a religious beat group the coverless one is by them also. Dont know anything about the private press of 'Len Kramer's Remarks' except its from 1972 and they have a latin percussionist despite the presence of a country medley on side A oh and I cant resist a xylophone despite their obvious boring church connections:

                        [IMG][/IMG]

Just realised this should have probably started off February but oh well as thought the West African ones on Decca are decent the rest I think I can safely say are tosh with some Tim Rice and percussive sample fodder thrown in.

                          "Kramer's Remarks"
So close to making a palindrome...

My partner worked for the National Discography (as was) and I joined the team a bit later on by which time it was being used as a more general MCPS tool to assist with repertoire research. The bare bones of it are probably still being used to this day.

Interesting I've not listened yet so cant say I know the ins and outs of what was trying to be achieved hence the flippancy but never heard of it before, odd how these things turn up in charity shops. By the liner notes Its Tim speaking interspersed with clips of classical music, 'Hendrix' and 'The Sex Pistols'.

Ha, not far off, its british club cabaret with solid drumming but nothing to get excited about. Turns out 'Len' is indeed the Latin percussionist. They were a smaller part of a bigger band apparently again led by Len. I can safely say I don't need to hear anymore covers of 'Amarillo' and 'My Way'.
