Default Dipping toe into Library Records

I've recently had my eye on a pile of Library records in Plastic Wax,
Thing is I don't really know where to start, and at £5 a pop, seems a bit pricey if i end up with a load of chuff!

In general does the usual Rock/pop rule apply (i.e as you get towards tail end of the 70's/ early 80's - things go all "ultra-clean" and modern synthy)?

There seemed to be a few KPM's with Keith Mansfield on but they were from 1982 I think,

Similarly is Richard Harvey any good (wasn't he in Gryphon?)

I love quirky instrumental stuff, but not keen on slick sounding clinical music!

Any pointers?!

Cheers
