Irvine Welsh Saturday, 13 December 2014 (Outlaws Yacht Club, Leeds)

Again absolutely nothing to do with me but another of Chris's nights that are well worth highlighting for the mix of conversation and music side trips... if either of Anton Newcombe or Dean Cavanagh evening tickled your ear lobes this one is for you…

    In Conversation with: Irvine Welsh

    When: Friday, 13 December 2014 - doors 5pm

Where: Outlaws Yacht Club, 38 New York St, Leeds

How Much: £5 donation per person on the door for MAP which is a Leeds based charity that offers hard to reach young people access to art and music qualifications

The big-up: We are delighted to be welcoming Irvine Welsh to the Chinwag settee.

Irvine burst on to the bourgeois literary scene like a stray molotov cocktail in the early 1990’s with “Trainspotting”, a visceral, linguistically corrosive tour de force that took the reader into the dark heart of Edinburgh. After becoming a cult classic, and the most shoplifted book of all time - even though it sold millions - the film version took the world by storm and propelled Irvine into a career that has seen him follow up with The Acid House, Glue & Filth to name just a few.

Accomplished as a novelist, screenwriter and playwright, Irvine has never forgotten his roots and still connects his readers to the squirming underbelly of life. Irvine mixes bruise black comedy, social commentary and scalpel sharp observation to tell his stories in print and on screen, he also follows the great Scottish tradition of oral storytelling in his worldwide - always sold out - speaking engagements. You really don’t want to miss this one!

Chinwag and Outlaws Yacht Club are very proud to host Irvine on Saturday 13th December 2014. Doors open at 5pm and Chinwag with your host Chris Madden starts at 6.30pm. The bar closes at midnight.
