Hollar as an LP is a nice listen but very straight for the most part. The track that stands out for me is her version of ‘Nature Boy’…I’m a sucker for this track anyway so I bought this LP fairly blind in the hope she might do something interesting… Framed within a latinesque setting Jerome Richardson Tennor sets this track apart on the LP which also features Oliver Nelson.
    Nature Boy
Lovely Lp - big fan of Etta Jones myself - my favourites off that one are "and the angels sing" & "give me the simple life" will have to dig it out and re-visit "nature boy"

          • The thread that keeps on giving!

            Top notch stuff Matt
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.

Thanks Knitwear, the vocal version on the Decca EP is also great - if only I could find a copy....

                      • That Colin Bates is a definite grin inducer.

So many of these are 'coming through' now.

I've had those quiet flute trills in the New Jazz Orchestra's Shades of Blue drifting in and out of my head at odd times over the past few weeks.

I'm still majorly drawn to the really quiet, thoughtful ones that sound like the musicians are delicately picking their way through the tunes... like Don Rendell's 'Prayer.'

And that 'Starless and Bible Black' really is something else too.

                        Many thanks for these.

I've been toying with the idea of uploading more tracks from some of the LP's in the chart, a few of which have the sound you describe. - All depends on server space but I'd like to do it. A good number of the LP's in the chart feature several nice tracks that deserve to be heard.

                            • La Roca rocks

the title track was on my first swap cd. the album also got booted/issued by Muse under Chick Corea's name as "Bliss". the sleeve and pressing are rubbish though, unlike that thick as hell Douglas pressing. deep music, with Sun Ra sideman John Gilmore (whose daughters late went on to star in their own TV show) is in fine form.

                              lovely.
