Simon and the Desert - I've never even spotted that scene before - not that I've seen the film for a while... did I sleep through it..? did even see the right film..?

That Bizarre film, is the rest of it as, er, good as that scene?

That scene is right at the end of the film...from memory, an aircraft flies over Simon on his pillar then it cuts straight to the club scene

Agreed on the Bizarre film... The first lines of the IMDB plot outline - "A brainy sex flick with a sense of humor, the film begins with a narrator/mummy who guides us through a number of vignettes promising to show what some of us go through in the pursuit of sexual pleasure." - are like a scene from the movie The Player... is this pitch serious...

The Simon of the Desert track is Rebelde Radioactivo by Mexican band Los Sinners

Spanish label Electro Harmonix re-issued a 45 with live & studio versions - I don't know if it ever got an original release

"Bunuel came to us. He was looking for a dive that would be right for the final scene and came to the Cafe Milleti where, by chance, we were playing. Don Luis asked us to play 'alarming' rock music. We asked if he wanted a vocal song or an instrumental and he answered instrumental, but really hard. He was looking for something sinister and very brutal. I offered him Radioactive Rebel and not only did he like it, but he also told me he wanted to name the film after this not particularly genteel or inspirational melody. The sad thing was that the producer Gustavo Alatriste said no way, because then they'd have had to pay a lot more for the rights"
