  • Tour of Britain - gallery

Inspired by the 'Round the World' gallery, I wondered if it would be possible to tour the UK by means of vinyl. I'll kick off the attempt with these choice moments of cover art crime:

    Scotland
Every Night is Hogmany - Majella and the Royal Tartan Highlanders

    Wales
Max Boyce - Live at Treorchy

    Tyneside
Michael Hunt with the Dombie Bros. - The Blaydon Races

    London
Chas 'n' Dave - Knees Up, Jamboree Bag No 2

    The Black Country
The BBC Off The Cuff Crowd - Black Country Night Out

Roy Bud - Live at Newport
Without doubt one of the most deliberatly misleading album titles ever.
"Record collecting is no mere hobby, no innocuous leisurely diversion. It is a feverish passion bordering on dementia, driving those under the influence to irrational, compulsive, fanatical extremes."

Glad to see I've beaten Mr Muench to posting this.

        Frankie Vaughan "Stockport"

Don't own a copy, but obviously would love to. Apparently Sinatra was originally offered this song as he used to live in a council house in Brinny...

“Shut up you little bastards. You’re all going to die but before then you’re going to decay. Rot, for years, rot, slowly your bodies are going to rot. Slowly, mind, just slowly, for years, slowly, and painfully, your bodies just give up.”

And here's a couple that I do own (along with probably every VG+ member with an even passing interest in folk music who happens to live in Greater Manchester...)

          Oldham
various artists "Owdham Edge" (Topic Records, 1970)

          Lancashire
various artists "Deep Lancashire" (Topic Records, )

3 more (this time including 2 actual scans of the actual items rather than other peoples pics stolen from Google picture search...)

            Isle of Wight
Robin Holbrook "The Friendly Isle", 7", Solent Records, 1984

            Jersey
Francisco Javier "Jersey's Love", 7", Mousehole Records, no date
Actually the title track of this EP is decent enough and actually puts me in mind of late 70's Jorge Benn.

            Jersey, again
Bob Anthony "Jersey... Ile D'amour", LP, Ile D'Amour Records, 1975
Just pulled the LP out of it's sleeve to see if the label shows a copyright date and noticed that, like many of my LPs, I've doodled notes all over the inner bag to remind me why exactly I choose to hang onto it. Apparently I didn't like this one very much...

side 1/track 2 Tonight Matthew I'm gonna be Scott Walker (but shit)
side 1/track 4 The Blues Brothers via Sesame Street, awful
side 2/track 4 Funky (LOL) (marked as best track!)
side 2/track 5 Tonight Matthew I'm gonna be Frank Sinatra (wanker)

Overall: What a stupid LP, almost unbearably boring after track 1 side 2

I only discovered this song about a week ago (although i had heard rumours of its existence), i believe it was released as a 7" in the early 80s but i've never seen a copy... Its not the only Stockport song ever released: Stockport Carnival
Now celebrating over 1000 posts of nonsense.....
