started a topic Best of BRILLO - Friday 20th January

Best of BRILLO - Friday 20th January

So here's my 15 minutes worth. It was emotional............

    (1) Dinah Washington - Soulville (Roulette)

A very fine soulful jazz vocal tune from this prolific vocalist. Overlooked track, but a beauty to start the set with.

    (2) Sheila Wilkerson - Baby your a jive cat (RTT)

Still relatively unknown, but a couple have rared their head recently. Stunning soulful jazzy track that deserves peak time airplay.

    (3) Mary Alice McCall - Wade in the water (E&C)

Superb version of this gospel staple track. I still know relatively little about this great funk version, accept the kettle drum accents are just fine by me!

    (4) Rev. Milton Bronson - Pray on my child (Hob)

One assumes a spelling mistake on this early side for Hob as he recorded later in life as Rev Brunson. This is a winner for any dancefloor.

    (5) Soul Continentals - Moovin a'na groovin' (Jaber)

So I'm stil ltrying to find out more about this hard slice of dancefloor funk, and thus far....nada. Surely this isn't the only copy doing the rounds? Any info, much appreciated!

    (6) Althea Spencer - Take me baby (AV International)

This is the superior and much tougher take of the Alder Ray Mathis number on Jetstar. Raw, rough, deep!

    (7) Erma Franklin - Don't wait too long (Epic)

Back to the jazzier side of her vocal range, and simply an oft overlooked full bloodied tear up of a performance from Erma. Most worthy!

    (8) Sue Ann Jones - I'll give you my love (TCB)

Superb slice of Detroit soul, that decends into a heavy, beaty, funkier kinda offering from Ms Jones. Splendid on a very splendid scale.

    Yes.....a chart.......I don't believe it!!
Working...
