I think the 2nd series of the The Detectorists must be imminent - as BBC 4 are repeating the first starting this week:

Saw that this weekend. Liked it a lot. Romeo & Juliet in The Old West? All the trouble was sort of the male lead Jay's fault, wasn't it?

        • Swedish cinema is generally quite crappy these days. An big exception I missed when it came out is Apan (The Ape) by Jesper Ganslandt. A real "feel bad" movie with exceptional acting by Olle Sarri in the lead. Don't know how available it is abroad but if you can find it I strongly recommend it. Basically a man wakes up bloody on the bathroom floor, cleans up, goes to work, acts irrationaly and increasingly desperately. It's no big secret something horrible has happened, but what it is revealed fairly quickly. This isn't a mystery movie. No real explanations are given - it's just a hypnotizing, horrible and brilliantly executed depiction of his state of mind in the wake of the horrible events that took place just before the movie starts.

          Trailer:

"Only one thought left, that makes me come alive,
and that is you and me side by side, on the licorice ride"

          • Matt Berry does Ghosts

Also 'River' on BBC1. Miserable Swedish cop punches walls in England. He's got a player of vinyls. All detectives have vinyls machines these days; it's mandatorial. River's partner was slain in the head and River must find out who did it. Unfortunately he's plagued by Ghosts. Sort of ties in with Matt Berry.

            • Your'e right Mr Khan, I was most impressed by Amazon's original TV series 'Bosch' not so much the show as it was pretty run of the mill grumpy cop show fare set in Hollywood but not so his impressive valve driven stereo and jazz vinyl collection:

              • I saw Ridley Scott´s new film Space Potatoes at the weekend. It was awful, like a Ron Howard film, and SPOILER ALERT the potatoes, which manage to outact most of the all-star cast, die half-way through.

and I watched It Follows for Halloween. it was awful too. Failed attempt at dread-horror which is spoiled by hipster mannerisms and patently silly "invisible man" nonsense. Paranormal Activity 2 was on TV afterwards and I enjoyed it far more.

'Bosch'? You are joking aren't you? I wonder if he's ever worked with the Italian detective Zanussi, or called the Swedish forensics expert 'Smeg' to ask advice on a tricky case? I notice he also has a taste for large coffee table volumes about something called JAZZ. What is this JAZZ, I wonder?

absolutely. We watched it following "the visit" which was a great found footage horror comeback for M. Shamalayan.

                        • I found the first slow moving, watched episode 1 of the 2nd and going to let a few come out before I delve fully in, watching the first series on a week by week basis kind of ruined the flow of it for me.

                            ooh! looking forward to that.
I'm a bit of a fan of M. Night Shyamalan. I even enjoyed Lady in the Water and that pollen-horror one

Yes, that´s the one that started my "get a bit stoned and watch a Shyamalan film" ritual. I don´t skin up for any other director.
I think my charitable view of The Lady in the Water, which I found hilarious, tender and magical, was strongly influenced by what I smoked.
I also liked the one where Will Smith and his son were pursued by blind alien jabberwocks that "smelt fear", but i have not yet tried Airbender.
