Steptoe & Son is something I can watch again and again. Detectorists will match it I think.

And there is a Series 3 to look forward to later in the year
    Excellent news!

Hoping it will be as good as the last one...

I love the Count too. The humour is pretty broad but I like the way everything is set up well in advance so the whole thing can come together later on.

        • Watched "Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors" dir. Sergei Parajanov, 1965. Holy moly, one intense film with wild visuals centered on Ukranian traditions, including brain-bending ethno (sic) music throughout.

          Sample:

I am up for more Parajnov.

              • there have been some great programmes in the current Japan series on BBC4 - the 3 parts of "The Art of Japanese Life", and a great programme last night about Hokusai and one on pop idols, which was a bit disturbing. Still got a few others to watch, like one about sword making.

                    • Recently watched Anthopophagous (aka The Beast, Savage Island, Gomia, Man-Eater and more), infamous video nasty from 1980 by Joe D'Amato.

About a group of people stalked by a crazy cannibalistic killer on a deserted island. Pretty standard with a few sensational gore moments. The cover calls it 'slickly directed', 'sinisterly suspenseful' and says it 'still holds up today'. That wasn't my impression.

Not really for me, bought the DVD for the bonus documentary '42nd Street Memories' which is very interesting.

                      • Watched a great documentary about Lee Morgan (it's on Netflix) - "I Called Him Morgan"

Whilst watching, I realised I didn't really know anything about him, wasn't even aware of how he died. Don't read reviews in advance, it's quite a gripping and unusual documentary to come to blind

yeah, to anyone who doesn't know much about him and wants to keep the suspense in the documentary - don't read that article before watching!

it's a nicely shot documentary, arty without being annoying.

Also loads of good photos throughout, like the other shots from that Sixth Sense cover shoot, and loads of good B&W Francis Wolff shots

                              • The new Twin Peaks has been great, even if you come to it blind it's just an immense spectacle of weird. I think it was episode 7 (with the bomb) which was like a mini film I couldn't take my eyes off it. It's also very funny and makes you question what on earth you are laughing at. The bands in each episode alongside the sound design throughout has worked brilliantly too.
