  • Just read the Lee Morgan article. Art Blakey's general practice with band members. Never heard that before. Would like to think better of such people.

The bands in each episode alongside the sound design throughout has worked brilliantly too.
Glad to know I'm not completely alone here Amidar "an immense spectacle of weird" sums in up just nicely...

Just watched episode 13 - which opened with the two mobsters dancing their way in the office where Duggie works with those (robot?) gangster molls - sounded like some samba sped up to the nth degree

      • Ha, I'm watching the final 2 episodes 17-18 tonight. There was a scene a good few episodes back where it was just a single shot of the roadhouse with someone brushing up and a guy by the till on the right hand side of the screen which seemed to go on for ages. All sorts was running through my mind like 'oh it must be the end coming up' and then I found myself judging the way the guy was sweeping up ie: 'he's missed a bit, I wouldn't do it like that, etc' but I was engrossed by it. Then after what seemed like an age the phone rang and the guy on the right picked it up and the show carried on for another 5 minutes. It kind of summed it up for me there are lots of those awkward moments which are at times both unnerving and riveting at the same time.

I love all the little homages to tv and movie tropes even making fun of the original series and there is a great one in episode 16 that just made me and the wife explode with laughter and she has less of a clue whats going on than me!

Those gangster molls are pretty damm weird almost like mannequins shuffling about! My wife loves Duggie she doesn't want him to get better.

        • Myself and the wife really enjoyed 'Taboo' so we decided to start binge watching 'Peaky Blinders'. Currently on season 2 and up to Tom Hardy's cameo, took a good few episodes to get going but were pretty much hooked in now. Otherwise 'Mr Robot' is back which is my favourite show but there hasn't been much in the way of standout TV which has grabbed our attention so any recommendations that may have passed us by would be welcomed although if it's SCI-FI we've probably watched it. There's a new Western serial on Netflix which looks pretty good so think we'll give that a go.

Oh 'Ozark' and 'Sneaky Pete' are worth a watch if you like drama with a touch of black comedy, 'Sneaky Pete' is the best of the two. My minds gone blank 'Twin Peaks' though even if you've never ever seen it is well worth watching just for the soundtrack, the visual feast for the eyes and it's really funny.

          • Really just watching 'Detectorists' and 'Motherland' at the moment. I can't believe there is anything better than 'Detectorists' on. Nice to see Linda Lusardi turn up last night and I did like Lance saying 'buckle up' as he chased down 'Terra Firma' at about 25mph, indicating to go past them, and finally managing it at a passing place.

            • Finally got into some early Cronenberg. Watched SHIVERS and THE BROOD recently. SHIVERS is quite an interesting spectacle, if somewhat campy. The premise and the turd-penis is out there, but the atmosphere and straight-forward directing is great. Liked the zombie-like climax around the pool and that old man and his granddaughter in that empty apartment.

(At work, so don't dare posting pics...)

yeah, enjoying these two series a lot.

Also "The F**king End of the World" (or is it The End of the F**king World?), the first episode was on Channel 4 but the rest is only on the app for some reason. Funny, but pretty dark, for fans of Sightseers and the like (Steve Oram is in it as well).

Anyone watching "Snowfall"? I've really liked it so far, about 4 episodes in I think.

Also watched some superhero stuff on Netflix recently - Jessica Jones was pretty good, Luke Cage even better (more gangster themed, very stylishly shot, lots of stuff about Harlem, good music, etc). The team-up series ("The Defenders") was disappointing - some good bits, but thought the plot was a bit rubbish and too farfetched. Will probably give the other ones a miss (Iron Fist, Daredevil)

I was a little concerned that a third series of "the detectorists" might have been pushing it too far - but I needn't have worried...

Yes, they could have left it as a beautifully polished diamond but I think this third series is just as good and though it may have looked naff on paper the timeslip sequence at the end of the first episode really gave me goose-bumps.

                    • only bit which jarred so far IMO was the opening of the first episode, in the energy company offices. I could see what it was trying to do, but it didn't work. Luckly everything got back on track

                      • So, I have just watched the first 2 episodes of latest Peaky Blinders series.I admit to missing out a good chunk of previous series so my question may seem silly to those who have: I know our winters have not deteriorated in the last 100 years so when did Small Heath / the wider Midlands area relocate south of the equator? It was Christmas and they were getting the hay in (well they could have just been transporting it I suppose), but the trees (all of them!) were in full leaf in all scenes where the noble plant species appeared.

                          • Just watched online the wonderful Greek crime thriller Έτερος εγώ (Eteros Ego = The other me). The director decided to withdraw the movie from the cinemas last year due to a number of killings that took place during the same time. Now he has posted the full movie online - you may check it on youtube (english and french subs are available) - the link is:

                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3zho2aV2bs

In a nutshell the movie is about a professor of criminology who tries to solve a number of murders whose only link is quotes from Pythagoras. Highly recommended.

And in case anyone's interested, here's an article that explains why the movie was withdrawn: http://www.ekathimerini.com/217038/a...-cabbie-killer

Everything in Greece is arpa kolla

                              • new series of Inside No 9 has been very good so far. First one clever Shakespearean pastiche, second very funny and moving, third showing the awful Rellik how it should have been done
