    Indeed. Very clichéd.

    • Thin Lizzy documentary on BBC 4 - oh yes!

oh and couldn't find the film recommendations with all the noir and thrillers in, but just watched A Dandy In Aspic - great! (and a splendid Quincy Jones soundtrack)

Was good stuff.Must get some of the early lps.

Watched 'Duffer'. 71 British flick part of the BFI Flipside series. Quite dark and very grotty with some great shots of London as you would expect.

          Great series.

Used to tape bits off the tv with my portable cassette recorder in those dark days before home video recorders (unless you were Bob Monkhouse and could afford a Sony reel to reel ).

                • What about the 2009 modern day Sherlock movies (mini-series with long episodes?) - are they any good? They're starting showing them this weekend over here - think the first episode was called A Study in Pink...

They're ok in a leave it on the DVR in case you get bored kind of way. Still better than Guy Ritchies effort though.

Anyone like His & Hers? I just finished The Trip (the coogan one)

                    • Anyone seen Obselidia?

The soundtrack supposedly features an orchestra of obsolete instruments.

                      Sounds interesting.

like a lot of TV crime they're not as clever as they think they are, but the casting is pretty good. there's only 4, although i think more are going to be made...

                        • I watched 'Rolling Thunder' again last night. Outstanding stuff. One of the best revenge films ever.

Hooker: 'What the fuck are you doing?'
Tommy Lee Jones: 'I'm gonna kill a bunch of guys'.

I like the Tommy Lee Jones character better than William Devane. Devane has a reason for revenge, Tommy tags along for the action. He likes it.

                          • Also watched the latest Adam Curtis blog post last night. Loads of archive footage based around Rupert Murdoch, including, for the record nerds, a brief flash of an Australian pressing plant (and a Wogan segment too).

                            • Found 'Firepower' (aka 'Revenger') starring James Coburn, Sophia Loren and OJ Simpson on VHS today. Looks like a good revenge flick, Coburn is wearing a turtleneck on the cover and Loren is the widow seeking revenge.
