  • Rik Mayall...

"And the grown-ups will say "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say "Haven't you heard? Rik is dead! The People's Poet is dead!"

Very sad news... I met him when he was at the Arts Theatre in Cambridge, and when a fire alarm went off during his play he ran around the auditorium manically shouting "Fire! Fire! Dont Panic, we are ALL GOING TO DIE!"

Godfather of violent comedy. I remember nearly dying with laughter when the park keeper attacks him and sticks his fingers up his nostrils.

'I read the news today, oh boy...' (As my beloved ex-partner Reggie Bonsaquet crooned to me one wonderful morning back n the 1980s..)

Rik is fine. He will get up soon. Sometimes he just takes this whole 'alternative comedy' thing a bit too far...

Just caught it on the news. He was great, what a shame
Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all

Real shame...For too young to pass.

Like most on here, some of the first alternative comedy I ever saw was the young ones.

... Thanks for that and many other great slapstick comedy moments.

              RIP Rik. 56 for fuckssake...
If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

A Titan. He stole those episodes of Blackadder right out from under Rowan Atkinson's nose. I can recommend his book 'The Rik Mayall Bigger Than Hitler Better Than Christ' to anyone with a sense of humour.

Sad... I've been tempted to go through my my Comic Strip box again for a while...

terrible news to get up to, he was a big part of a lot of young lives here. no-one watched the young ones alone, it was very much a shared experience - and the programmers thought they'd buried it by screening it at 11.30pm. proved to be ideal as it was just after closing time. plus, Motorhead.
                            RIP the People's Poet.

Thought it was on at about 8pm on Tuesdays originally? On BBC2? Seem to remember watching on a school night. Brilliant.
