  • Find of the day (NRR, but DFR)

Whilst digging in the back garden this morning I happened upon this lovely little fella

I hope I didn't disturb him too much as I was pulling up roots and old bedding plants that had gone a bit wild. I watched him for a while then he hopped of behind the water butt and I didn't see him again (could hear him rustling amongst the leaves though)

    Lovely find!

Keep my dad when he was a child well away. When he was young he caught a toad and and cut his head open because he was told there were gemstones in toad's heads. There weren't and this episode haunts him still.

We have frogs living in a pond in our garden and all their tadpoles turned into tiny frogs that hopped about our garden for a few weeks before heading off to find a nice new wet patch to have tadpoles of their own or they were eaten by the foxes that live in the trees at the bottom. I love our new garden.

I saw a snake swimming in the Thames around oxford the other week. was a real stand by me moment, swam right passed us, my daughter and I just stared at it and didn't say a word. No one believed us when we told them but we knew. We knew.

We filled a pond in our garden about 10 years ago, every year the frogs still make the journey. i can't imagine how disappointed they must be.
I know your game Lionel! I can see what you really are!

A common belief it would seem. I have a book with an illustration on the cover showing a man, "extracting a jewel from a toad's head". It's from 'Hortus Sanitatis' which was published in 1491!

My mum moved to a new house near a patch of forest where deer roam free about a year ago. Today the dog and I sat on the porch and watched a young deer that had appeared among the trees and ate plums that had fallen on the ground.

The gemstones can only be found after sunset when the moon is waxing.

When I was very small my mum befriended an elderly local mole charmer, who would go round to people´s gardens and banish their moles for a small fee.
He banished ours for a tot of whisky, muttering some splendid gibberish over a molehill.

The moles came back after he died and my brothers and I once caught one to show to my Irish granny. St Patrick banished all the moles from ireland and most Irish people have sadly never seen a mole.

I cleaned out the tumble dryer which resides in the garage (massive job) the other week and pulled out (from the steam outlet pipe entrance) what I thought was a solid bit of collected fluff only to discover it was a dried out and rather flat frog or toad. Freaked me out no end!

                  Nice,
I think I can claim the NRR 'find of the day' for the day before. A 7lb 7oz little baby boy

He is ours, just in case anyone doesn't get the find bit

I now need to get the hi-fi sorted so that I can start playing him some records.

Don´t forget to check your baby's reflexes. Lots of fascinating fun to be had there.
