I am debating with my very self over what fully legit funk compilations there are in the wild that would prove to be sufficiently and efficiently budget-shrinking and time-consuming for an aficionado to re-create by simply being able and lucky enough to get hold of all the entries of the comp in question in the long run? Seemingly, this is a big-time spender`s cup of tea. My only esthetic term is that it is vital that music on such a comp be incredible!

My current candidates are Chains and Black Exhaust and Funky 16 Corners. Do you know of any other of the sort and do you like it?

Since Chains & Black Exhaust doesn't even have a track listing, I'm pretty sure it's not "fully legit". Bankruptcy and madness will surely follow trying to complete most funk compilations. I suspect Ian Wright is one of the few people who can happily dispense with full runs of The Sound Of Funk and Legendary Deep Funk. But even if I COULD do it, compilations are very personal - there's always a few tunes I could happily live without... The Funk Spectrum volume compiled by Keb & DJ Shadow is pretty ace, mind.

This is legit and decent, though the cheap bangers are plentiful...

I've got everything on both Street Sounds Rare Groove comps. Probably cost me around 25 quid to tick them all off . I felt like a proper playa handing over a fiver for Cheeba Cheeba in Afflecks Palace

There Mr Divine. I must have taken it slightly unserious that Chains and Black Exhaust has never seen an official vinyl release so far, and perhaps the absence of the tracklist just adds up to its somewhat blurred "legal" standing therein. Still, the comp is a banger, and you`d have to crack a couple of pudgent piggy banks to treat yourself to at least half a dozen sweet things from in there. That`s where he who has a sweet tooth gets broke I suppose. BTW, thx for putting me back on the Funk Spectrum thing, MR Divine. Will give it a good IPOD-spin right now!

When I read the first few words I had to think of 16 corners, but you had that covered already. Last comps I bought were the Strange Breaks & Mr. Thing comps on BBE, think theres 4 (?) parts already, only bought two of them. But they should fit the bill..
