Englebert must be the US equivalent to Jim Reeves in the UK judging by his habit of laying out his albums in chazzas and taking pics. Maybe we did a swap deal with them on the croonsome twosome!
It's quite a romp and I enjoy looking at pics of chazza racks. I love how he goes from sharing 'Barbershop' albums to bereaved families to stalking Kenny G in the space of a few posts. Made me chuckle at any rate.
When the search ends for particular Kai Winding LP's it's only doom from then on, a bad omen indeed!
I'm going to enjoy reading his adventures, the only thing that could improve the prose is if he ended each digging anecdote with 'Needless to say I had the last laugh'.
Love this from a Texas trip, not just the sign but the fact they have dedicated Buddy Greco and Eddy Grant sections. I'd catch 'a bad one' as I'm always rifling through those boxes stashed underneath the racks! :
Thrift store pics, a Kenny G selfie, record poetry and a Lloyd Miller interview! This blog has the lot
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.
It's a thing of beauty, he's mildly peeved in his latest post at discovering a copy of 'George Benson 'Breezin' priced up at 29 dollars. I'm a bit obsessed with reading little bits of it here and there. Just as it seems normal he drops in a tale of how he used to take LSD at family gatherings and his uncle used to glue his CD covers to the roof of the basement.
In the CD singles I found Blur’s Beetlebum, No Doubt’s Don’t Speak, Dilemma by Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland and Stay Another Day by East 17, often thought of as a Christmas record despite the fact that it doesn’t mention Christmas or anything to do with it. I bought a promotional version of Five’s Let’s Dance as a curio.
When I had paid for my goods the assistant made a brave attempt to squeeze my purchases into a carrier bag that was blatantly too small for the job. Eventually he abandoned the mission and chose to place the small bag inside a larger one along with the remaining items.
The rain continued to fall but it was time to go, so I bought a box of lager and a newspaper and waited for a bus to take me home.
There's a particular Kai Winding LP he wants, "..alas I found it' he says. Did he want it or not?
I grabbed that one many many moons ago in Mole Jazz records - as it had a version of "coming home baby" on it - it can't have been much kop as I got rid of it soon after - was I wrong?
This is a good one though:
the title track and a top version of "the sidewinder"

Yes that's more like it. The other was not exactly Kenny Burrell's finest hour was it.
