Here's a list of rekkids Mr Bongo has that most of us will never:

Strange there's no salsa/afrocuban/latin. Mr Bongo and the Elephant & Castle shopping centre were pretty much the only places importing that stuff in the early/mid 90s.

I don't know London well, so the first time I went to the Elephant & Castle I was surprised to find a bunch of Colombian shops tucked away in a grimy 70s monstrosity. There were at least three places selling records and a couple of the owners were far more knowledgable than the Bongo staff. You could also get hot arepas. Probably still can.

Note the existence in Perth of the "Elephant and Wheelbarrow". I have seen it referred to as a "traditional English pub". I don't know what tradition was being referred to there.

Got the first United Future Organisation 12" on a white label out of Mr. Bongo (when he was in the basement of Daddy Kool Records)

I wish I'd known that. It always seemed dark, grey and foreboding ... should have visited on a sunny day ...
