  • Marti Caine - Point of view

I saw a copy of this this morning. Visually Ex/Ex+. Sleeve not so good - tape and pen.

Not my thing. Even at what I suspect is a good price (still too high to warrant a punt with an eye to a trade).

Any regular posters who are interested can contact me - perhaps we can join some dots. Suggest that you move quickly. First pm gets priority.

I wish I hadn't read that post. I had blissfully forgotten that Marti Caine ever existed ... now, how to forget again ...

Clearly, there is a backstory here. I have no doubt that I speak for all site members in calling upon you to divulge. What you say will be held in the strictest confidence.

I've never heard that album but am always on the look out for it. I dont know how a 'Marti Caine' album became a grail but I suspect it was down to someone on this site or its predecessor in some way. I'd like someone to shed some light too.

It has been sought after for quite a while for one song, Love The Way You Love Me, but I put it on a compilation about three years ago and the price went a bit mad.

It turns out that the key track was actually a track made by Turboellis. Marti Caine slowed it down very slightly and presented it to the BBC as her own work. Members of the funk establishment who had dismissed Turboellis's track gushed over the same track a few weeks later - not recognising it as being essentially the same track.

I suspect that there will be a 'luv' angle and predict a novelisation by J K Rowling (under a pseudonym).

              Everyone benefits.

              Except Turboellis.

I am mildly surprised that no one has asked me to act on this for them. I suppose that you all (a) have it (b) aren't interested at all (c) are put off by the description of the sleeve (d) are put off by the postage from here or (e) other.

I am now considering whether I should swoop on my own behalf with a view to a grip-flip.

Does anyone have a spare sleeve that is in good nick that they could bear to part with?

I'm mildly surprised nobody has posted up the track in question. So, I have because it's great. I think most people on here aren't that fussed about disco, and most people want to find it for a quid. And maybe your initial reference implies it's expensive, but perhaps still a relative bargain... Most regular traders on here will tell you it's often a struggle to conclude a trade, without going to the hassle of buying something pricey which might not even turn up anything you want. At the risk of sounding vulgar, err, how much WAS it?!

Sure, it would be sweet to find it for a quid. I'd get it for myself if that was the ask.

$50. About 29 quid. A few years back there was a post here saying that (IIRC) 30 quid was reasonable.

It was still in the shop earlier today.

At least one of the copies currently up for sale on Discogs is held by a VG+er by the looks of it...

Ha! Yep, that daftly priced copy is mine. I don't really want to sell it (as I really like the two decent tunes on it), but don't really listen to it, so I stuck it up for sale with offers when there were only one or two copies up for sale (and none in the UK..) If any VG-plussers are after a copy, I would be happy to try and work out a sensible trade...

I think it's actually worth about £120 depending on condition. One went on eBay recently for around that and it seems a reasonable price now the mania has sort of died down.

I found one in September. NM/NM too.

Will probably send it to Discogs in the new year. I could buy a lot of records I'd play more with the proceeds.

Nonetheless, I'll always treasure the moment I found it....
