What an excellent idea. I don't think I've ever really had a truly memorable find. I'm going to have to rack my brain.

Yep inspired idea, another diversion from your CSC thread. I'll have to rack my brain and I don't want to post anyone's house but the first place that comes to mind of recent times is this BHF in which I found 'Johnny Harris - Movements' after many years of searching and a record on the 'Holyground' label which wasn't my cup of chai but turned out was worth a fair few quid. Unfortunately the cover was tatty and it was in VG condition but I still got £100 on ebay for it. I was there the other week and theyv'e stopped selling vinyl again!

Not sure this is quite Google Earth cos it's inside a shopping parade but it's linked to the map.

Camel and ostrich infested car boot location where I picked up my first copy of Movements yesterday. And a nice Vertigo copy of Autobahn.

This Noppakoaw massage centre was once a secondhand shop which sold everything the owner himself used to collect. Books, comics, magazines, film memorabilia, vintage signs, toys, figurines, artwork, bric-a-brac, etc, etc, plus a small collection of records in fantastic condition which was quickly stripped of it's gems, making re-visits pointless for me (new arrivals were rare), but I used to bring visitors there on the chance they'd find something but also to allow them to experience the shops other main attraction: a staggeringly large, eye-poppingly graphic collection of vintage porn. Not erotica, not pro nudist propaganda, this was graphic pornography. Mountains of it. It took up almost half the shop. You didn't know where to look. The shop had a very onhandig name -- in fact I can't even remember what it was now -- but we used to refer to it as The Palace Of Porn. RIP.

Porn and vinyl palaces I have known include the famous eclectic records and butt-plugs shop in York, where the buyer digs in the crates beneath massive dildos ...

...and there used to be on the Westgate Road in Newcastle which was filthy, damp and depressing but had a solid collection of US funk lps for a while. I once looked left and right before checking the coast was clear, nipped in, bought a James Brown album off the seedy owner who was browsing a spank-mag, then left the shop just as a group of girls I knew passed by. " I was buying records, honest.."

I exchanged plenty of sad shrugs with the owner over two years but on my first visit to one of the very few charity shops in my neighbourhood I found a small stack of italian libraries and I faithfully returned to the shop every other week until they closed.
