  • Help needed identifying an LP

I'm trying to identify a white label 9 song LP, mastered at Strawberry. The matrix doesn't show up anywhere and its not my area: disco, jazzfunk, soul, late 70s perhaps. The big clues are A1 is a cover of Stevie Wonder's I Was Made To Love Her and B1 is a cover of Get Back. Is this enough for someone to identify it?

Put the matrix number up as all clues help and the full track list.

K52131 and STRAWBERRY in the matrix, etched not stamped. Possibly a WEA pressing. No track listing, in fact no other info at all, I just recognised those two songs needle dropping it.

K52130 and K52132 are both Elektra releaes in 1979 (Grover Washington Jr and Jerry Lee Lewis) listed on the 'ogs. No mention of K52131 as I'm sure you have already checked . A puzzle. Instrumental or sung?

Yeah Elektra fits, this came from a stash of mostly WEA pressings. There are vocals, multiple female singers, but also instrumental tracks; I think I heard violin on one jazzfunk style track, but I don't know this stuff well enough to make comparisons, and I won't have access to a proper turntable until next week. I'd hoped the cover versions would be clue enough. The Stevie Wonder cover is good, I expect it to be a name soul/disco act, poss released as a single, but there are too many to wade through on YouTube.

Sounds like a job for shazam once you have your turntable

Couldn't be Sister Sledge could it?

They had another record cut at Strawberry in 1979.

                    Yes, agree.

A strategy I didn't immediately think of was to look at the US releases around the same time. So this one either never got past the promo stage in the UK or is so obscure it has never been added to Discogs. Quite possibly the former as the matrix number yields no hits whatsoever on Google.

                      Yes thats it, nice work.
Now that I'm back home and have my reading glasses, the sides were not reversed for UK release, it's the same as the US.

that album. If it has the Steely Dan -Rikki cover on it, then that's definitely it!
