  • Deluded Discogs Sellers

This is the thread to highlight Discogs sellers who price records at insanely high amounts.

I'm not talking those who list big ticket rarities at multiple times maximum Popsike pricing, those are ten a penny.

It's people like Scotthendry21, who decided to list not one, but two copies of Jane Fonda's Workout Record at more than £180:
    https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/681802482
    https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/676577801

God know's what he'd try to sell a copy of this for if it had a cover:
    https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/705196157

I'm trying hard to understand the reasoning behind this. Does he expect people to be so perplexed by his prices that they visit his page and then perhaps buy something priced more at the going rate? If so, then I suppose I am doing him a favour in this thread.
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.

are you sure he's not just cocked up the decimal point in a spreadsheet inventory update? a lot of the other prices look reasonable, so they probably meant £1.80 for the Jane Fonda

https://www.discogs.com/seller/scott...Casc&limit=100 <- 7000+ items under a fiver is not the usual strategy of sellers with inflated stock

Perhaps a new thread - mathematically challenged discogs sellers?

want the best copy has been a member for about 5 years with 27 feedbacks
scotthendry21 on the other hand, about 5 years with 1690 feedbacks
the latter appears to have some idea what he's doing

Baffling. The Squeeze single certainly looks to be intentionally priced, based on his rambling explanation under 'Comments'.
I like Squeeze but most of their records go for tuppence so I'd be astonished if anybody forked out £250 for that one. Chancer.

Hmm checked a few more listings and it's a bit odd. Seen the decimal point mistake happen a few times and it fits some of these prices but not all. Maybe they have seen the people asking stupid money and thought I'll have a bit of that...

Can't say I've noticed too many like those highlighted here - it's the multiples of popsike valuers who crop up more on my feed which drive me round the bend. Moreso when condition is ropey as well.

this is one of the reasons I won't do Discogs, if I had this much stuff I couldn't be arsed to individually price it and if I had this kinda chuff I would donate it somewhere
If summats worth selling stick it in a £5 box and be damned or auction it if it's rare

Want_the_best_copy is exactly the type of seller I was thinking about when I started this thread.

His explanation as to why he is charging more than £100 for records that are worth £1 is a joy to read:

his stock's overgraded as well - stuff with "light scratches" etc listed as NM

and he says they've been stored in hard plastic covers, so probably half are ruined by off-gassing from the PVC if he's not played them for years

Also on Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden: "Excellent condition black vinyl-no visible marks. Hardly played as I did not like this album."

I should be working but am engrossed in his listings now

                        this one's great

He claims to be happy to photograph the item for serious buyers.

I can't compete with the marvellous 'Want-the-best-copy' but Monsieur_Alain is definitely deluded (https://www.discogs.com/seller/Monsieur_Alain/profile). He has nearly 1000 records listed, mostly disco 12s. I struggled to find any priced lower than Discogs highest sale, many are 10x plus. So far he's got 3 feedback.
