  • HD vinyl anyone?

I thought, no actually I don't, but I softened my attitude to what I suspected would be another major label fleecing exercise, instead of which, in this interview, we get a passionate German scientist type bloke talking about how he set out to improve the very old vinyl pressing process we currently have, and is about half way there, stating that the 1st HD vinyl LP may be available this year. No new playback equipment required apparently ...

No mention was made whatsoever of price, but the fact that a side of an LP running at 45 rpm could be made possible sounds interesting ...

As usual, skip about 5 mins at the beginning ...

    A 12" disc playing at 45rpm?
    Will wonders never cease??

I'm sure I've misunderstood. Does this mean a normal (approx 20 min) LP side playing at 45rpm? Because there was of course a rash of LPs reissued as 2x12" 45rpm discs in the '80s which did sound great but were a pain in the neck to play (high maintenance). I sold my Metallica 2x12" MFNs to a Russian collector for what seemed like an absurd amount at the time but looks like the tables have been turned:

BTW anyone else getting dire warnings about the vinyl guide's website being unsafe? Never happened before.

        1. Yes, apparently, the new technique allows grooves much closer together, I think ... so same length, better quality
        2. Yes, the day after HD vinyl is released. That will be the last wonder.
        3. Not in Chrome. What browser are you using? Netscape Navigator?

The proof of the aural pudding is in the listening.

I doubt that it will be an issue for me.

So if the site is OK, its probably a network policy issue here then.
Probably shouldnt be trying to access these things at work.
