The finds thread just made me think about gold discs, platinum discs and the like. What was the lowest amount that had to be sold to get a metal disc, and what type of metal was it? Bronze I’m guessing. Do they still give them out? Is there a new version? I bet there must be folk that collect them. I’ve never seen a real one. Cheers, Stephen

The BPI give them out in the UK, with streaming now counting to sales figures:

Looks like in the 1970s you would have to sell a million singles for a gold disc but now it's just 400,000."You don't want to kill the cash donkey"

took me a while to recognise him there without his Corporal Jones gear.
also I just searched for "Bric-A-Brac" which was a TV programme set in a junk shop (probably an influence at an impressionable pre-school age) that I was 100% sure he presented, and found out it was actually Brian Cant.
Streaming counts at a lower rate than proper sales I think... Guess it needs to be included else the charts would just be full of RSD coloured vinyl and so on, no-one else seems to go to record shops these days

I picked up a handful at the car boots recently, I have passed them on now though, there was a whole box of them for a fiver
and in my (misguided) wisdom thought 3 for a quid was a good deal, I have since found out the bloke who bought the box of about 50 sold them all for a tenner a pop, ffs...
gold on one side - with nothing in the grooves and black on the flip
