Bill Wisener, 75, who ran Bill’s Records in Dallas.

I was warned about his 'make it up on the spot' price policy but man the records in that shop

Maybe its downbeat with depressing themes and technically imperfect vocals but it is an excellent example of a downbeat mix with depressing themes and technically imperfect vocals

A heathen, conceivably, but not, I hope, an unenlightened one

Same here. Also sad to read about the death of Joel Vandroogenbroeck as reported above.

Andy Gill Gang Of Four. Some of the best feedback I've ever heard.

Very sad news, too soon to die.

I saw Gang of Four last September, not a great gig imo for reasons that had nothing to do with Andy Gill (not that it matters at all now) but I figured he was not in good health.

Greeks tend to smoke in gigs (embarrassing and extremely annoying). Andy Gill kept asking the crowd not to smoke (I remember he kept saying "please do not smoke, it's killing me"). Poor fellow was even carrying an asthma inhaler (which I'm pretty sure he used towards the end of the gig). Unfortunately, the crowd, being typically Greek, totally ignored him. I felt for him, not just cause I suffer from asthma but deep inside I knew he was not doing well. I thought about it when I heard he died...

Rest in peace Andy. Those two first albums were a relevation in my late teens.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'll be 56 this summer. Way too early to check out.

It was at this gig that I first met Andrew Weatherall, I was standing near the back as the band played and got chatting to the guy standing next to me. I never recognised him and we got on well so when we introduced each other I then realised who he was. Of course I had a CD mix on me (Jazz Mag Numb 3 I seem to remember) and he was enthusiastic about the tracklist! We agreed to meet up at the aftershow party (I used to get invited to these things haha) and later that evening saw Meg White (of White Stripes) standing on her own at the bar but was way too scared/stoned to talk to her, but Andrew was such a lovely chap that night
