  • Down Payment On Death BBC 1976

Hi Folks - long time no...etc...etc..

Anyone been listening to this 1976 series on BBC Radio 4 Extra recently ? Some amazing theme music they've been playing in full, which I feel I should know but can't place it.

Edits at the start and end of this episode ...any help gratefully received !

Thanks for the tip - sounds like I need to have a listen to this series - immediate thought was it's a Syd Dale?

      Paging Lord Thames.

I suppose we could try 'Texting Lord Thames' but my feeling is he's still in the pager era.

Had a listen to episode 1 last night - as you say excellent music. The main theme and the incidentals. Francis Lai also popped in to my head for the main theme? It does sound very familiar...

            Pretty much, yes!

The track in question is one of my favourites - 'The Hustlers' by Roger Webb from the Chappell library. I'd link to the full 4'50" majesty of it, but it doesn't seem to be on Youtube anywhere, sadly.

Shameless ego massaging, but this is lovely! Proper made me smile after a challenging couple of weeks!

One of these days Lord Thames is going to say 'Sorry, I haven't got a clue', and a shudder will run through the forum. Then we'll wake with a sudden start, realise we are sat up in our beds and think, 'Thank God, that was only a dream'.

Thank you everyone ....and especially thank you Lord Thames - a reliably fixed point of knowledge in an uncertain world !

                    Agreed.

Listening to "the hustlers" in full - I'm sure I may have heard snippets of this used on Pirate Radio Tip Top as a jingle, sting or even perhaps on a Tip Top Tape?

Oh, that would be interesting - it's the kind of tune they'd have loved, I'm sure!
