This week: Boogaloo Investigators live!
With guest DJ Fin.

Hot, Funky & Sweaty Dec 04
Salmon & Compasses, 58 Penton St, Angel, London N1
Every 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month, 8pm-2am. Free

There are only two British Funk bands that can match SpeedometerÂ’s performance at HF&S last month and we have one of em in the bag for this Thursday. ItÂ’s the last stop for live funk at HF&S this year, as the mighty Boogaloo Investigators drop in from oop North to deliver a JB/Charles Wright/Orleans flavoured slabÂ’oÂ’funk on our southern asses!

This is the only London date on the Boogaloo Investigators UK tour this year (not to mention for free). So show your support for your Scot Funk brothers and make it down to witness the five-headed organ grinding, backbeat riding monster with a grudge!

So who's coming down then? I think I might have to put up these five Scots myself, yikes! Anyone care to offer a Scot funkster a bed for the night?!

No it's cool, Mike, but thanks... Just realised that I have a spare futon thingy, so they'll all fit in the front room... I have warned my flatmates however, that it will be impossible to keep myself and five Scotsmen quiet, clambering into the house at 2:30 am, so they best come out and get pished with the best of em...

maybe they could have an impromptu jam at 3 in the morning and delight your neighbours! do the instruments have to fit in your front room too?

That was again one of *the* best gigs Ive been to in a long time. Any band that can jump around styles and years from song to song so well is highly rated in my book. Plus their lead singer looks like jesus crossed with a very funky prog rocker. Very very very good! Loved the mad psych freakout they did.

f_$! me that was mind blowing. Those boys just gotta record more stuff. In fact I cant think of anthing this morning apart from jesus singing about being on the back beat tell people to shut up and dance. In fact nick you need to get them back there as soon as possible. Dont worry about duplication and getting fresh acts etc we need them back!

1st time without a hangover however. I just danced all night so there goes my 100% hangover record.

"Fryer - shut your mouth! Fryer - shut your mouth! Fryer - shut your mouth..." etc

they ought to do a live album, or a fake live album. great stage presence! also they are much more bluesy than the other bands which is good - people concentrate on the funk too much and forget about the R&B and blues it came from! (and that goes for records too)

i think i've got your hangover, phil!

although I must admit the only reason I wasnt really dinking is I wanted to save a bit of money. I wish I stayed and got pished until 2:30 like the rest of you lot of reprobates.

No I don't! It's all about the 'blues funk, soul funk & funk funk', baby!

The Hogwash mission statement since 1996!

And yeah, the Boogaloo boys rock - wished I could have made it to the more intimate setting of the Salmon cos they stormed the Jelly Jazz Eden Project gig earlier in the year.
