  • Hey e man was there ever a soundtrack made for ...

being the Blaxploitation/ 70's action fan I am I've often stumbled across funky tracks and wondered if a commercial release was made. Here's a short list of films

    "Hi, Mom" (1970)

    "Black Gestapo" (1974?)

    "Abby" (1974)

    "Scream Blacula Scream" (1973?)

    "Black Belt Jones 2" (19760

    "Hot Potato" (1977)

    "Putney Swope" (1969)

    "Trick baby" (1975?)

Everyone feel free to answer if you know. I knw I may have asked a few of these in the past, but I'm your typical recovering pothead ergo I tend to forget.

There is a putney swope boot cd though, with some music taken directly from a video transfer.

teddy's right - no official OST LP release for any of those.

however there's a good cover version of the Putney Swope theme on a loungey LP and two of the other movies may have had limited promo 45 issues (but i haven't ever seen them, not on ebay or anywhere and know no-one who has them, they're just listed in some of the very comprehensive movie OST guided)

I'm guessing Scream Blacula Scream is one of those that may of had a limited 45 release. "Hi, Mom" needs to be released on LP, its just so nice. Young Deniro running around with black panthers with some of the fnkiest incidental music I've heard. I think its time I go on the hunt for the composer.

Time to hunt down anotha acetate

actually i think there is a soundtrack for 'Hi, Mom!' released in 1970 on the Skye label. there also is a 45 of 'Be Black Baby' by Grady Tate I think, but I could be wrong, someone please confirm. Unfortunately I don't own either so someone feel free to dispute this. great film imho.

actually just to clarify it doesn't seem if the full soundtrack was ever released, just the 45 of be black baby. at least that's the most info i could find out. since skye records folded not too long after the release of that 45 (due to money issues) it would seem it never got a proper release. someone prove me wrong! a definite candidate for issue/reissue....great soundtrack.

There is definitely a 45 release of this, on Skye. Not really into it myself ...
