Hmmm, £55?!? A tenner is probably the limit for a pristine copy but I'm sure loads of collectors shops would ask more. I have to say that Roy's version of Faure's Pavane on there really swings - slow intro then it just takes off (in a playing-all-the-notes-on-the-piano-accompanied-by-rattling-drums-and strings type cool jazz way). I like! (But mine has no flipback sleeve? Or is that the new expression to describe when the seams have come unglued?).

(are there any photos of Roy Budd where he isn't leaning on his Lotus?)

This is a bit of a shady description (and price) then:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=25600

It makes it seem that all the breakbeatrare tracks are on there....

(just passed on Roy Budd 'Lead On' LP for a tenner during this weekend's charity shopping... was that a mistake? track listing didn't look too promising)
<span =''>

I have a copy of this lying around, haven't listened since I got it...

I will dash briefly into the lounge and check it out...

Huh, as I suspected, pretty straightforward joanna-jazz. But nicer than I remember, sort of thing I'd like to have going while reading a book.

But a tenner? No sir. Try a pound, or maybe three if you really like Roy Budd.

hmmm...I think you'd be bloody lucky to get any of those at those prices - I've never seen the John Cameron 45 at any price, and the Mansfield and Schifrin are pretty hard too...
<span =''>

Yeah you are right John.

I was just pointing out good tunes that would be pricey on specialist lists but are well priced in Record Collector.

If anyones lucky enough to stumble across them in a shop at least their heart wont sink when the owner reaches for their price guide......

Hmmm, the RC guide would be great if all the dealers used it. I'd pick up PEPSI for the tenner or so that they've got it going for for in there....

Unfortunately ebay and the net etc now render these guides pretty useless for a lot of music. I suppose they're nearer the mark with things like Beatles and Stones memorilibilia

everyone's favourite charity case llmod1 scored that Schifrin 45 for a mere 6 quid only a couple of months back... i've never seen one for sale in a normal record shop, ever... usually goes for 25-40 these days!

(btw, i've got a spare of a promo copy of the flip side from that 45 though - it's a good mid-70s Schifrin funker, the theme from the 1st show in the Planet Of Apes TV series, not the main theme from the series itself... messenger if you're interested)

The RC guide also comes up with Spaghetti Head's "Spunky Axe" (er.. that'll be Funky Axe then!) at the princely sum of a fiver. Where? Show me!!

Ah my favourite topic!

I'm still trying to launch 'Hadrian Elephants Legendary Cheapfunk' scene, without much interest though

Here are a few 7"s that are listed at reasonable prices in the latest Record Collector price guide:

Bobby Williams - Lets Jam (Contempo) £8
Ella Fitzgerald - Sunshine Of Your Love (Polydor) £5
John Cameron Quintet - Troublemaker (Deram) £6
- Mind you if you get one of these you are bloody lucky -
Keith Mansfield - Soul Thing (CBS) £5
Lalo Schifrin - Ape Shuffle (20th Century) £8
Lavell Hardy - Don't Lose Your Groove (Direction) £6
Rotary Connection - Respect (Chess) £6

started a topic cheap as chips

cheap as chips

anyone got any good tips for quality UK 45s that can be had for pence? i'm thinking one-hit wonders, stuff like that.

to start the ball rolling, check the flip of minor hit single Groovin With Mr Bloe (called Sinful)... tasty KPM-esque uptempo cheesy dancer with big drums. kind of like Mansfield/KPM does Northern Soul crossover with a Cadet funky influence - some of the riffs are very 'Grandstand theme'!

next?
Working...
