Well?
Does anybody know anything on this classic TV theme from our wonder-years? It certainly made an impression on me as a kid even though I never knew fully grasped the purpose or significance of the programme! The theme tune was re-modelled for TV use later on [in the 80's?] as I've got an MP3 of it, but it was awful and it didn't feature the prog-esque organ driven noodling which makes the seventies version so evocative.

I have been told that this tune builds up into a full-on prog type blow-out, but I'm not sure if this isn't simply popular fantasy/BS which surrounds a great many seventies themes. Afterall, most people only ever heard a few seconds of these themes either side of their fave TV shows, hence the great mystery some still seem to maintain.

I have an MP3 of the original seventies version, but it only lasts 35 secs!!!

I always liked the music they used in the epilogue. Both tracks are similar in relation as the two main tracks on Assault On Precint 13 - least to me anyway, always reminds me of that film... what the fuck am I on about?

Laurie Johnson is responsible for this beautiful, haunting them tune!

Great theme no doubt, but I've always been envious of my mate Tim's OG 'World In Action' t-shirt.. surely fashion doesn't get much better than this:

Let him have the lot for £2.00 - we were only going to throw 'em out anyway...

i might be going mad, but something is nagging away saying the proggy World in Action theme was an extract from Mountain's 'Nantucket Sleighride'...

yeah, pr'olly goin mad...

Close - 'Nantucket Sleighride' was the theme to 'Weekend World'.

The prog organ World In Action theme is 'Jam For World In Action', as Sermad says, but Seventies Kid is also correct about Laurie Johnson - his KPM track 'Private Eye' was used in the 1960s (and is still being used for the '7 Up' series too for some reason).

I've not been able to find the full length organ theme, though I think there is a version somewhere in the bowels of Granada TV - the only version I've been able to track down on record is an 80s recording by Derek Hilton, which is, unfortunately, very much 'of its time'.

The Hilton version is the same version I have on MP3 and was very contemporary for its release date. That's the bloody problem with it!

Weston did do the version I am on about. It's so cool to check this 24 hrs after posting and find a few good men are feeling this theme too, it really was ridiculously good in a trancey organ fed proggish styling.

This falls very squarley into the zone of those tunes you have on a loop in your head which periodically return and haunt your consciousness untill you scope it and bag a copy! It's almost as if the bloody record wants to be found and persists in repeating itself to remind you of it's excellence! Or is this just a psychotic episode I am languishing in?
I am gonna get this sucker if it kills me cos it's just been too long since I've been after it.
Who knows tho', it might even receive a long overdue fresh release like the Sesame St. Pinball cut did last year?

Any tips on locating this would be very much appreciated guys, ie. decent [online] TV theme specialists/dealers???

PM me if you got any tips?
