• Weekend-finds + two questions about disco...

My weekendfins:
Jumbo '76 -dance to the jumbo '76 -Some tasty Hansa-disco
Curtis Mayfield -Something to believe in
A compilation from '82 with tracks by D Train, Mtume, George Duke, ...

...and the questions:
I'm very into early 80's disco lately, what should I look for?

I'm looking for stuff in the similar style as D Train, Luther Vandross, Tracy Weber, Leon Huff, late Gladys Knight and The Pips, Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack..

And what's your favourite disco-track?
This one does it for me:
Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack -"Back together again" -pure 80's dancefloor filler

The A-side is not that good, mainly tipical "Hansa-disco". The B-side is a long nice disco-track with 4-5 super funky breakdowns that sounds like it could have been taken form a Blax.-movie.

It's a wicked record, Bels-O, but it doesn't sound that 80s, really. Does it?

I like 'Tell Him" or is it "Tell Her", by 80s Ladies. That is the right title right? And I like the Sylvia Striplin LP "Give Me Your Love"

...how about the Mary Jane Girls "All Night Long"... ? ? ?

( bit of a personal fave, but is it disco ? ? ? )

will know !

If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

I'd like to holler at the Clash at this juncture.

Radio Clash, Mustafa Dance, Magnificient Dance...

Yes indeed.

Funnily enough I was just sorting out some 45s and I moved my copy of this from 'funk etc' section to the 'disco' section. I always um and ahh over that one. It probably should go in the 'hip hop' section. Great record though. I'd like to nominate Indeep's 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life'. I love that track. Proper funky eighties disco.

What about the Cerrone 'Love in c minor' lp? this is cinematic widescreen dub disco at it's finest, and features our very own Mr Hawkshaw on keys. Also worth a quick mention are some of the Qwest recordings from the early eighties in particular the Patti Austin 'Every home should have one' lp fine airbrushed disco funk of the highest order. One of my all time fave disco lp's.
And i can thouroughly concurr with Ladyboygrimsby's fine and ace selection. Word up mate!.

Oops. The Cerrone lp is '76 so it's kinda out of the remit. Sorry!.
