Hello there LBG

To my (very limited) knowledge it was originally released in Belgium, but also Greece and Australia too.

It was repressed a couple of years back.

My mate has lived in Belgium for about 8 years and hasn't found a cheap copy yet.
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.

The Aussie pressing is on the Carina label...

The re-issue goes for little sums on the bay, I saw it once for $40....

peace.

I thought there was a Jap reissue too. It has gone for sums on ebay, but I'd say that's due to inflated attention rather than a true relection - I'm sure it can be uncovered somewhere for way less... That or just wait for the hype to calm down, as it's been getting a bit of attention of late. Gomez has definitely been a bit trendy the last year or so, IMO.

the japanese reissue was around two years ago or so. It was quite pricey for a new release, about $25 at dustygroove. It was on P-Vine if I recall.....

and yes definitely since the reissue came out, the hype on the record has grown exponentially. I do think it's worthy of the hype though.....

I got a reissue about 3 1/2 years ago for $12.99 new. Omega International was the label listed, which I think was the original Dutch releaser. I seem to remember coming across a rumor that Philip Lehman of Soul Fire put out this gray market reish/boot, but I can't confirm it. Sound quality is amazing and it's definitely a record that has stayed in the crates ever since I got it.

That place is mad. If you're very lucky you'll leave with some good records (if you can actually prise them out of the racks where they are carelessly crammed in) that's if you've got there before the London regulars or Jazzybeatz. Either way you'll contract a lovely combo of hypothermia, pneumonia and lung cancer from the proprietor's chain-smoking.

I've only been a few times myself. The first time, I left with loads of good stuff, each time since has been progressively less fruitful cos I don't think his stock turnover's that great. And the effort involved is just prohibitive now.

Still think Sheffield's Record Collector is my favourite spot. Respect to the seven hills.

Probably not. Aside from RITUAL, Nico has also recorded more than his share of crap nonfunky easy listening tracks.

should be very cheap.

Yeah, you're right. Ritual is a rare gem. And definitely worthy of the SoulStrut-esque term of 'heat'. I tend to knee jerk react to records that get gossiped about and get everyone in a flurry - I get the impression that there's a great big flock of headless sheep out there, all after titles an influential person name checked that particular month that we've been looking for, for legitimate reasons...! I really do wonder if all them people really enjoyed the Stark Reality LP when they finally heard it etc etc.

Still, I've been riding the whirlwind myself from time to time and catch myself getting the fever over some record I probably would've dismissed if heard under other circumstances - maybe that's the real reason why most people react violently against something like this, cos they've caught themselves doing the exact same thing!

Personally I thought ritual was a one tracker.
