After copping a feel of LDJB's top tip in the shape of that '18th century concepts' LP, and being smitten as i am with the 'Songbook...' LP's...does anyone have any 'further listening' with Mr. Curb?

do enlighten me!

I just scored his OST for the cult movie Mary Jane on the deeply conveted label Sidewalk [read Nick's recent post about this label for more info] and I'm mad happy I did!!!
Bay Street Boys is just disgusting! Sounds like Inc. Bongo Band fell into a huge vat of poppers before emerging into their full body leathers to tear off towards the studio where, under the deranged leadership of Mister C, proceeded to unleash HELL! I agree with Ed on this matter, Curb usually makes me wanna run to the hills screaming, but boy, did he stick it to us on this box of filth! The rest of the Lp is covered in gloopy, psych pop rock type jams and I love it to death! Even the completely unhinged main theme sung in a falseto voice so loopy, it positively threatens your sanity!

You can currently bag a copy from Intoxica for silly money! But baby, it's one tough joint!

"A Natural Man" by Lou Rawls and the Mike Curb Congregation on US MGM 7" is a great little 45.

Mike Curb was / is very active in US Republican politics apparently....

I've seen more Mary Jane's, mostly for around £30. Bay City Boys is the tune though...

Where exactly?

I never saw this OST before I read about it on Ed's site.

I know of the Hells' Bells OST which I understand you are a mad fan of Nick, although I've still not heard it yet.

I know precious little about this label but I do know it's a serious collector's fave, right? I'm not big on biker movie stuff, although I do have a few really tough OST's like this.

Maybe we should do an OST special one Brillo evening???

Ive got Mary Jane. Yes its pretty rare. £30 sounds good. I remember John Stapleton playing it once and I dashed over to the decks asking what it was. Two seconds later...doh got that!

Some nice beats and fuzzy funky rock on there. I quite like biker-ploitaxtion stuff - Thunder alley (?) and Switchblade sisters spring to mind.

MaryJane was a 30 quid record a good few years ago. It seems to be pretty sought-after by US collectors now (see Soul Strut where it gets mad props). Haven't seen one for sale for a while (go on - someone say it's on ebay every week)

you're in for a treat. it's wicked. there was a bloke on GEMM who had a few copies of it at one stage (under the wrong title) but he wanted quite a lot for them.

any record with a track called 'hot wind' is going to be a winner.

Andy - if you want a weird bang-for-the-buck bargain from Intoxica and don't have it, get this: No Way To Treat A Lady by Stanley Myers. 12 quid!! it's brilliant and very heavy and dark. organ drums bass late 60s nonsense.

The Mary Jane OST has sat in Intoxica for years and years, varying between 30 and 50 quid. I've seen it online plenty of times too. And it's on my weird minidisc mashup thing... As for Hell's Belles, do you remember that kid who sneaked an original copy from under everyone's noses for just $9 or something? I was sooo gutted by that...

MaryJane has popped up at least 3 times this year so far. I know this as fact!
I have had my eyes permanently on peripheral Biker-vision

But it has gone for around $50-60 so it's fairly stable price wise I'd say.

Then again, who knows who's reading this right now so who knows what will hapen next time it rears up on the evilbay?

Intoxica have it for, well why not look yourself:

Oh fook it, save yr time, here you go:

Mary Jane - Mike CURB & Laurence BROWN /Valjean JOHNS & Guy HEMRIC/Mike CLIFFORD & Mrs, MILLER (Sidewalk T 5911), US, mono, coh, 6" split top seam, corner scuffs, otherwise EX-/EX:£ 50.00

I think I put that on Soulstrut in one of their eBay sleeping posts. Still bloody sealed as well and it was on my watchlist

I did get a VG+ off eBay a couple of weeks later for about $20 so I can't be too If you're patient it's a great LP to find searching under either Hells Bells, Hell's Bells, Hells Belles or Hell's Belles.
