  • Dennis waterman

I picked up Dennis waterman -"Waterman" record. It's on DJM, from mid seventies, arranged by Brian Bennett and Steve Gray. A nice record with a couple of library-type tracks with Dennis vocals. I was wondering if he's the same guy who played in "Sweeney"?

And does he has some other good records?

    Thanks

yes, and yes. he did a classic theme for a tv show called 'minder' which is kind of a rocky library-style track with vocals.

Wouldn't be surprised... After all, he did have a number one with the theme to Minder! (it was a number one wasn't it?) And he looks like a club singer from 70s clubland! Remember that fantastic scene in Phoenix Nights?!

Well, I made the mistake of buying his 'Downwind Of Angels' LP with a similarly decent line up and frankly it stank to high heaven.

This 'Waterman' LP is in a local charity shop near here. I've avoided it so far given my experience with the bloke....but I might take the risk now.

Hmmmm - I thought it both sucked and blowed - went straight back into the wild but maybe I was missing something.....

apparently he's made some dreadful records in his time.

we're big fans of 'minder' round here, with countless dvd's littering the place. love the theme tune, but haven't heard any other good songs by him.

incidentally, the theme 'minder' theme tune appears to be written by 'kenny', with lyrics by waterman. surely this isn't the same 'kenny' that were a popular beat combo in the 70s? i always assumed there were library people behind it, until i looked a bit closer.

The songs are mainly pop stuff, but there's a nice mellow track with keys, and a upbeat discofunk track that should work well on the dancefloor

As in 'The Bump' as sampled on the equally awful self titled track by Space Raiders ? Jeez...

The Minder theme was produced by Chris Neil, who was actually a member of Kenny, so it's a pretty spooky coincidence, if you ask me. He also played the lead in 'Adventures of a Plumber's Mate', which isn't spooky, just horrifying!

As for Dennis, I do like 'Hooray For Curly Woolf' on 'Downwind....', and the 'MacArthur Park' instrumental bit on 'Hollywood Seven' is good too, but I think the best track he did (apart from 'Minder', obviously&#33 is 'Something Called Love', which features Hank Marvin on guitar, and is probably the upbeat disco track Mr Tee mentions.
