  • Pc emulators to even the odds

After visiting Sermad, checking out his ebay search software, Auction Chief, made me green with envy - how can mac users get access to the same advantages?! To my knowledge, there isn't a decent ebay management system available for macs - unless of course you use one through a Windows emulator...

I'm not just doing a lazy post, asking for advice I could probably find myself, but it could be useful to get some views here, in case others have or are trying to do the same thing as I am. Are there Windows emulators that can just run in the background, or not turn my computer into an ugly mess of dirge gray and radioactive blue? Does Auction Chief work with a soft windows app? Can you leave it on, or does that soak up all your free juice etc etc.

Again, any info appreciated - maybe I can gleam some tips at Brillo later...

I've wondered the same thing, too. I know that PC users seem to be able to do a lot more than I can with my basically useless Mac software. Anyone?

aren't there some websites that can do this for you, instead of actual client software apps?

Auction Chief tracks the things you're after and you can see them all together Excel style... The websites I know just email you when it finds something, unless there's a good one i don't know about...

a good trick for you mac users would be to just bookmark your favourite searches, thats what i do. but this auction chief seems a bit better.

i'm with mcdoom on this one - i've started bookmarking favourite searches and it works well. i'm sure auction chief is a good piece of software but this method works for me.

Sorry for being a div, but how does this work exactly?

Yeah I bookmark a few broadish searches and all that, but after seeing Auction Chief in action, nothing else comes near it, nothing I've seen anyhow...

Can anyone burn me a copy of the Chief, now that it's no longer possible to download it?

Bookmarking. I use bookmarks for various websites/mesg baords etc., but I can't see anywhere (on Safari at least) where I can bookmark searches etc.

the way i do it is to do a search in ebay (say for example i go into "records" and search for "pye&quot then when it returns the results, i use "add bookmark" in safari and keep it in an "ebay" category. a search is just another web-link, same as a website.

then when i want to search for stuff on pye records again, i just choose the bookmark and it runs the search again. saves a lot of typing every day. i just keep them all lined up.

                          Rich,

you can still get Auction Chief here:

                          Auction Chief

Click on download demo, to get the full version, its now a freeware package.

I downloaded it about 2 weeks ago, it really is very good, once you get it setup.

Cheers Jonky. I tried the site a few months ago and they'd removed the downloads then, so I resigned myself to them not coming back. It's nice to be wrong.

PC users aren't all Windows users you know...

am trying a few Linux programs at the moment. will report back if anyone else is interested.
(searching for 'ebay' on Sourceforge returns quite a few open source ones, including ones for Windows and Mac)
