I have been listening to the latest Cherrystones mix - Hidden Charms. Whilst a bit too rock for my liking it did get me thinking about Cherrystones. Is he still making his own music? What's his new stuff like? Check his first release on Stark Reality number 1 - great soundtrack vibes.

Am I missing something here? David Holmes presents Cherrystones presenting Hidden Charms???

Mr Divine presents a link to a Website presenting some info on David Holmes presenting Cherrystones presenting a compilation of 60s psych stuff... Why thank you ladies and gentlemen. Thank you. You are too kind...
There MUST be a Hymns-A-Swingin' in this box...

David Holmes. Good at spreading the basics but hardly digging into the real gear. That's a pretty basic tracklisting to my ears. And 'Black Olives' is without doubt one of the most overrated 2-bit garage 45s to get played out so much. Not really sure why the funk crowd seem to like this cut so much. An OK bit of filthy R&B but that's about it or am I missing something?

I like the Black Olives tune. I liked it before Rustler comped it, which may be a reason why it's been getting plays recently as it's easy to find. Haven't heard it getting played out other than myself, but then again I should get out more...

Personally, I like it cos it's exactly that: dirty R&B. But I doubt if the deepfunk glitterati do!

That Cherrystones comp is still around right? Wouldn't mind a copy of that...

I think Mr Stapleton had it in one of playlists not so long ago.

I haven't played mine out for a looong time.

Yeah me too but I prefer the flip 'Love' - killer garagepsych!

Could never figure out why people who DJ funky bits played it out so much but if a couple of funky-so-and-so's have compiled it, then, I understand all of a sudden

Did that comp only just come out? Cos David Holmes is a god amongst crummy bar CD DJs and may a go a long way to explain the tune's recent popularity that you mentioned, Mr Wolfe. Not really making a super-elitist comment there, you know the ones I mean: buy CD comps, no real time or effort in researching, finding tunes. Holmes was born for these guys...

The mix is out later this month.

Personally, I quite like David Holmes and I would'nt consider myself a crummy bar CD DJ

                            You're hardly that LFC!

Not saying Mr Holmes is nasty - he's just one of the few guys with one hand in the digging world and another in the crossover (ish) world, so like our Josh, everything he endorses via sampling, comping etc, really gets heard.

I just get a bit annoyed by some fellas who just roll up to a bar and flop their CDs out. C'mon, put some effort into it!

I try to offset these pangs of elitism by getting involved with Brillo, spreading the good word of funk and freely sharing any info with anyone who asks, to try and make up for my sins!

Just wait til crummy bar CD DJs start spinning the Brillo comp! Actually, that could be quite some wait...

Or maybe ask David Holmes if he fancies "presenting" it?!
