It's interesting that the Americans have jumped on the fact that these tunes are being used by KFC, to sell these records, when it's a UK ad campaign (I think?). Well, interesting to me anyway.

Sounds, er, interesting. As ever, I stand humbled and corrected. (But I still think it's daft though ).

    Oh really?

1 - 16oz. container of small curd cottage cheese
    1 cup sugar
    3 T. flour
    1 tsp. lemon juice
    3 egg yolks
    3 egg whites
    1 can evaporated milk - 12 oz.
    1 1/2 cups milk
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. salt
    Pastry for 2 - 9" pie shells

    Preparation -
Empty cottage cheese into a colander or strainer to drain the watery liquid for about an hour. Meanwhile, line 2 - 9" pie pans with pie dough; Flute the top edges. Mix sugar, flour, salt and nutmeg together; set aside. Place drained cottage cheese in a separate bowl. Add lemon juice, egg yolks, milk, and evaporated milk. Combine with the dry ingredients. and mix well. In another bowl, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold beaten egg whites into pie mixture. Pour into 2 unbaked pie shells. Bake at 400º for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temp to 350º and bake for 25 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on wire racks at room temperature, then refrigerate.

    Yum!

    Custard, of course.
And now you're just being daft. Anyway, why serve cheese on a plate that's far too small? They couldn't have that through...

Just noticed, check out the angle of that plate - that's an accident waiting to happen, that is. All manner of fromage mishap could occur there.

I agree only on the basis that The Flirtations *do* sound tinny on that advert, even on my Home AV system. Great song though.....

Another re-tred thread this, but I'd far rather get a call from my sister asking if I knew what this tune was (so she could find it on CD), than 95% of advert music. Stiltskin anyone ?

I just looked on Juno. Which album is it on, Bollocks To All That or No Sleep Till Kings Lynn?

Bah! Foiled by Grimsby's voice of reason yet again!

Somehow, these tunes don't sound so good when on adverts. It was nice to hear a soul tune on a TV ad that wasn't I Feel Good for once, but now it's gone bezerk and I'm not sure I like all this soul stampede, kind of cheapens it all, not thought through - ad a bit weak? Wanna get that 'consumer solidarity' thing going on? Wack some old soul tune on, just gerrit offa Northern Soul CD comp... And it does sound tinny! That latest one, with the spicy chicken salad - tinny! That's just the way they sounded and I don't have a sub-woofer connected to my Hackneyvision (big wide thing - hackney is more poor than well off and all the electrical shops are stuffed with giant TVs and fridges)

The new McDonald's ad music is Shitty by Shit and the Shitting Shites btw

    i) I like the ads, often more than the programmes (even though they are obviously evil and helping to sustain the capitalist hegemony which, naturally, we all want to overthrow).

ii) I like the music in the ads, too.

iii) Tinny? TINNY?! Road Runner? California Soul? Do I Love You (the ad for which, incidentally, was filmed in my local park)? Who Who Song (a Cleethorpes all-nighter classic&#33? Come on.

iv) I like No Angels and I also like the music in No Angels, even if I have heard all of the tunes a million times before and I know the inveitable CD spin-off is really a cynical marketing ploy to help sustain the capitalist hegem....

    v) What's that tune on the new McDonald's ad?

Soon as the ads come on, I'm outta the room like a shot! Just can't stand to sit and gawp at something as banal as an advert - much rather go and do something less boring instead for three minutes before returning for the concluding part of Miss Match on Living TV

The only music I remember, apart from KFC's ability to use the most crappest, tinny soul tunes ever, is the 'zoom zoom' tune for some car, especially the tension remix version of late... Anyone seen No Angels on E4 or is it Channel 4? Makes you appreciate the writing that went into Shameless, cos this 'happy go lucky northern, with serious issues way back in the bckgrnd' series is pretty shite. But worst of all is their relentless programming of KFC style soul - they must average about 20 Motown tracks per episode. And you know it's just to sell the accompanying CD, advertised after the very first episode. What do young nurses listen to after a long shift at the Ossie? Motown knockoffs? Fuck that! get that Euro trance, whatever you call it, the stuff with the really loud, cheesy synth keyboards all over it!
Hey, Little Milton and The Flirtations aren't crappy! You're beginning to sound like Sermad, Nick.    And (apart from twatting 118) I often enjoy the ads more than the programs. Excepting 'Harry Hill's TV Burp', which is genius, and 'Shameless'. Although it's finished now.
