• Dutch heat?

Hi first post here, been digging for about a year or so, not much of a collection yet.

Been looking around for some nice local (dutch) records for a while now, coming up with common stuff like rogier van otterloo, chris hinze etc. but still looking for some more....

Remember there was a funky Dutch Rhythm Steel Band record, but forgot the title somewhere...

So anyone got tips on more stuff to check?

Hi there Miep - welcome to the VV board.

Just out of interest, can you tell me which Rogier van Ottewloo LPs turn up most commonly in Holland? Does his 'Grijpstra en De Gier' OST turn up much?

Many thanks!

'moods' and 'on the move' are pretty common, as are his collab albums with louis van dyke etc. 'Visions' is a little harder to find as is his 'let's go randstad' single. Have yet to see his 'grijpstra en de gier' album, so mi guess it's not that common.

Someone has a couple of their albums on ebay at the minute with audio clips if you want to check out what they sound like. I never encounter much Dutch stuff. Apart from Pussycat of course. 'Do It' is still the bomb.

The one with 'down by the river' is brilliant. Well that track is anyway.

I love loads of dutch music. Things to look for :-

Free - The Funky
Swinging Soul Sensation -Through the eye (dutch mohawks )
Fred Van Zegveld - Hammond Organ Dynamite (hard to find).
Jack Van Poll - High Jackin'
Jack Van Poll - Jackpot (Me want! Haaaard to get)
The Dave Pike Set - Got the feeling (good luck with this one&#33

I don't have much but I would definately recommend Powerhouse by Casey & The Pressure Group on Philips 1972? However, everytime I've seen it, it goes for a bit of dough. Contains a tune called 'This is just the begining' which is a massive hammond psych funk horn laden cut. Essential.

There's also Ob-la-di Ob-la-da by The Rob Franken Organization who get touted with that Dutch Mohawks tag. It's also very expensive when it turns up... I have a reish/boot for trade if anyone wants it.

Do you rate that Swinging Soul Machine LP then? I find it to be very cheesy in a bland pop cod-rock way - only track which does it for me is 'It's An Ill Wind...'
If this track was available on 45 the album would no longer exist in Castle Wolfe.

I've just played 'Through The Eye' to appease my memory of this album and my initial thoughts were right - not much on it apart for 'It's An Ill Wind...'
'Spooky's Day Off' is OK but that's available on 45.
This LP was the first AND ONLY record I bought off Recordgirl due to the embellished description.

Good Dutch stuff: agree with Casey & The Pressure Group.
I'm a massive fan of Dutch beat/psych too - especially Outsiders, Het, Q65
