• Records you only play when you're drunk

I was surprised to find a Charlie Rich LP on the turntable when I came downstairs this morning.

I was wondering are there any particular records you lot have that only come out when you've had a few?

Or to put it another way:

    Endless Tripe

I don't play records, I ring people up...

Apologies to LDJB (and Mrs LDJB), Sermad, Rich Hero, The E Man... and anyone I've forgotten...

As a rule, it's my ballad-style soul singles that come out of the crates and I usually enjoy a wet-eyed soulful 'woe is me' half hour. Usually ending with Maxine Brown's "Let Me Give You My Loving", or, if really, really, really exceedingly pished... Minnie's "Les Fleur".

      Soft Lad.
If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

When drunk, the lady of the place takes over the turntable, and gets into her singles...

"Hey, Kelly Marie! 'Feels Like I'm In Love'! Brilliant!"

Followed by much twirling around the lounge with arms outsretched...

This is also the occasion for the A-Side of Pussycat's 'Mississippi' to get one of its rare spins, but fortunately also when Deee-Lite, Indeep, Lene Lovich and The B52s all come out in force, too...

wayne, i now have this image in my head - very similar to alison steadman in "abigail's party" when she starts getting all the demis records out...

not that i'm implying in any way...

            fantastic, though.

I once polishe doff the best part of a bottle of vodka and listened to motorhead's 'Bomber' at full volume through headphones. A most regretable experienceas just about every organ in my body was completley fucked for days.

Hmmm, well we definitely DON'T have 'Wings Of Love' on any of our walls, and the clothes are more 'Sex & The City' than 'Margo Ledbetter', but she does do a worryingly accurate Alison Steadman impression. Hunch the shoulders, purse the lips: 'Aalisonnn...'

To be fair to her, though, it is when drunk that the Kelly Marie comes out. When left to her own devices sober it'll be anything from Jeff or Tim Buckley, to Pucho & The Latin Soul Brothers or Fairport Convention you'll catch her listening to. Or Madonna, obviously. A LOT of Madonna...

yes, it's the hunched shoulders thing! abigail's party and nuts in may are perennial favourites here.

been a while since i listened to pucho - should dig something out.

Shouldn't this be what records do you play when you're sober? I don't think I've ever spun a record without a drink at hand... Come 5am, it's always time for the gunslinger songs... Johnny Cash and all that.

Usually come down to a stack of 80Â’s Medway ala Milkshakes, Caesars, Delmonas, Daggermen etc. but depends whoÂ’s been round.

Theme from Screen Test, Life Is The Name Of The Game – Brucie 45 and Walk In a Line [Stones Throw EP] are all normally out, along with Mole Catcher by Bernard Wriggley…..

Have been known to indulge in Sun Ra on extremely loud headphones for pure self gratificationÂ…

I'd like a full tracklist if you have it, I've only got a testpress on Mayking Records so only know a few of the titles. Detour Records offered me £60 for the LP approx 8 yrs ago so probably worth a bit more now. Got the EP on Empire too.

                              My head hurts
