• Couple of probably not very new bits

ed in disque just recommended a couple of very tasty new bits that probably aren't new at all really, in which case go and read something else or GET ON WITH YOUR WORK.

baker brothers - a new single apparently on their own label, with a lovely chocolate brown label. word of a new LP in the works too. very nice two-sider if you like their other stuff. chunky. i wish they'd use analogue or summat other than crappy digital to record because the drums always sound processed and crunchy instead of fat. i like them because they have a messed-up late 70s proggy fusiony take on funk - if you're after another sub-James Brown soundalike then don't bother getting this (not least because there's a bit of space bass or summat going on in there)

willie bobo - broasted or fried (now again) how good is this?!! very very good. excellent even. quite possibly superb.

quite like the new mastersounds single as well. or should that be new new mastersounds? whatever.

oh, and what's with 45s suddenly creeping up into the 6 and 7 quids? come on now. stop being silly.

That willie bobo 7 is incredible.

Disques have always been expensive mate. They always add on a quid or two to anything that would normally cost a fiver. Price you pay for quality service and amazing opening times. Stagger out of the pub at 10pm...I know I'll buy some records....doh

Willie Bobo "Broasted Or Fried" is on one of his LPs - I can't remember the title sat here at work... check out a Soul Brother list, it's usually on there for around the 80 quid mark...

... hence the reason it's the only Bobo LP not in my collection...
If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

No, this is a unreleased version. Almost identical, but it has extra percussion. Sounded a little slower in tempo too... Not a patch on the Vincents though and frankly, I'm surprised at this choice from Now Again... not that I'm saying it's not worthy mind...

EDIT: Oh, sorry Sie - I thought you were saying it's the same track. Yup, the original version is on his (& the Bo Gents) Do Want You Want To Do. Used to be big, but should've come down quite a bit recently, as that stuff what was hot 9 years ago has been replaced by funk 45s in the money stakes... The Lp version is better.

Unreleased instrumental to Tramp, coming out very soon on BGP and a whole LPs worth of Ebony Rhythm Band coming out soon - that will be ultra hot.

hooray for the Tramp instro. can stop asking dealers about it now and confusing them (i didn't realise it was unreleased...)

the latest Lenar is pretty good, and there's the repressed/found-a-box Daktaris LP (mine came from Daptone on monday, $20 inc postage http://www.daptonerecords.com/pages/daktaris.html )

saw an ad in the last Fact magazine for a Scenario Records shop, in Ingestre Place, presumably Soul Jazz's old shop. anyone been there? the advert showed a few interesting looking 7s of theirs.

Opposite the fancy underwear store? If so, then it's the Soul Jazz place alright - why did they change their name anyway?

Haven't been there for a while, but they still do the 45s. Though you might get a decent price on one or two, the majority are over priced and titles that you could easily get online for less, especially as the bay is so, so cheap right now (compared to usual insanity anyway, and Mark Res's latest prices too)

No, Ingestre Place is the old Soul Jazz store Nick. The new, Sounds Of The Universe shop is opposite. Agent Provocateur...

i think this is abit strange as BGP tried to tell us it was unrealesd on one of there comp
and it was the track is called "pico" from the same lp
strange..

Pico is the instrumental of the Lowell Fulsom version of Tramp. It's the Otis & Carla instrumental that's getting released for the first time. And it sounds tough!

I don't know about the BGP confusion over that. You'd have to ask Dean - I'm sure he's lurking here somewhere...
