• Diy record cubes.

Well my records were getting out of control as I have no shelves so I thought I would make cubes instead of an ikea jobbie.

The sizes are 14"x13" for the top and bottom. And 13"x13" for the sidewalls. The mdf is half inch and is super sturdy. If you want to be crazy then you can use 3/4" mdf.

For the backs (not on in the pick) I'm using 10mm ply at 14"x14". This tacks on the back. If the cubes are not strong enough (I'm sure they will be) then I'll take these backs off and put 1/2" inside.

This is how its looking so far! Took me 10 mins to do the first one. Glue on the links then tacks to hold it together. I tried screws but the mdf isnt great drilling into without a clamp. I did all of it freestanding and a clamp or another hand would be good!

This is how its looking so far!

I think I'll use a wood stain or maybe paint them white.

Here is an update with the back on. I did a weight test and all my svelte 12 (ooooof) stone was taken by my weee box.

20 mins per cube now! I'm rocking.

PS. The wood cost me £35 (It was cut for me btw) for 4 cubes + the glue and tacks and we'll call it £10 per cube.

Personally I think this is great value for money.

Christ I couldnt have even picked up a hammer after last nights 'one drink'. Genius old fashioned boozer. Has lock ins and all. Shame about £4.40 for a pint of Hoegaarden!

Sods law now. I go to B&Q. Spend £40 on paint and now its raining! hulk

Painting them was a major ballache kids! You need a garage for this and not your kitchen!

Anyway. 4 are done. They need sanding down again and touching up as I got a bit sloppy with the gloss...but hell they look pretty damn good.
